Hey guys, the cyan coloured knight, the old bumblinb Lavvy needs some help!!!

As some of you know, he runs a Green Day site.

http://www.gduk.net

It has started to grow enough now, that it needs a forum (like IW).

But although Lavvy is fluent in coding html, he doesn't have a clue how to set up forums.

Is there anyone out here who can help Lavvy set up a forum for his site?

I cant offer any payment, but if anyone needs any coding help I'll try my best.

add me on MSN or reply here

Actually, reply here, and add me on MSN whether u can help or not.

You could try hosted message boards, which are free and don't require special webspace...
Like
http://www.proboards.com
http://www.xsorbit.com
http://www.ezboard.com
Only thing is that you will have to bear with banner ads or pop ups.

The problem with UBB (expensive btw!) and YaBB is that you need a server with perl installed and cgi support... So 80 % of the servers out there aren't options anymore.
But now I'm wondering, do you have a small budget or are you trying to set everything up at free servers? I have some experience with setting up Ikonboards...

Yep... But it's all about preferences, though, what features you like the most. The most advanced board with the most features around is without a doubt Ikonboard, though the the official new version hasn't been released yet (should happen within weeks, but at the moment the only features still not working 100% is MySQL support for your board or something similar like mod_gzip). Biggest problem is that it's a pain to set this one up, at least, it was with the most recent version. Messing around yourself should work, though...
UBB is the most stable, and YaBB (Xsorbit and Proboards are YaBB boards as well) is just very userfriendly and easy to set up.
Examples (don't look at the colour schemes, but at the features):
UBB -> Ironworks. No further explanation needed.
Ikonboard -> version 2: check the Elysium link in my signature.
Ikonboard -> version 3: check the Elysium Gaming Project link in my signature, though that's an older version, there are already newer ones around.
YaBB -> Pfft, I'll just point you in the direction of a proboards board which doesn't have the "we don't want any guests around" feature enabled... here.

Back...
Anyway, I have a prehacked version of Ikonboard 2 for you, with polls, expandable forums, maintenance mode, memberlist and several other hacks pre-installed. I could install that one for you, only takes about 20 minutes I think to get it working (I have set up many more ikonboards in the past ) so I guess I could set it up for you. I hardly use MSN though, so just give a signal when you're online. I will need ftp info and the url of the site; once it's set up, I will explain some standard things as how to add forums, change colours, banners etc. Let me know what you think and when you're online. I'm at CET (Central European Time) by the way.
