I've just wondered that in IWD you can add any character in when every you want, wouldn't this make the game too easy. Because you can export your character and when near death, delete the original one and import the new one.

Or and I playing in the wrong mode...it's been ages now and there are not new companions to join me unlike other AD&D series (played BG, BG2 often). I've set the mode to single player and created a game.

Is that right?

You could 'roleplay' that you found a mercenary willing to join you at some point in the game. I use that and to make it more fair, I always have the new member be behind quite some in levels.

You *could* use the import/export feature to your advantage that way, as the game mechanics seem to allow it. However, you would have to continually export your character anew, so that you didn't lose experience. Also, if you did that, it would interrupt gameplay constantly, and you'd probably not find it much of a challenge.

For starting a game, you do set the mode to single player (not multi, unless you play online or on a LAN with other people). If you want more than one character, you'll have to make/import them. As it's been a while since you've played, I would not recommend "going solo" (playing with only one character).

Sounds like a giant pain in the rear. I can't imagine anyone actually doing that.

I just want to add that any newly created character you import to your party will start at level 1, not so impressing for a level 15 party. You could, of course, create a party, play and level up a few times, export them, then start anew with your exported party. But that's just cheesy.

And no, there are no joinable NPC in the game.
