I suppose like the History Channel marathons, we'll see them on this network. Only rather than "All WWII, All Day" it'll be "All Decorating, All Day" or "All Makeover, All Day."

Hey, maybe they'll run one of our new productions at BiTI -- "Straight Eye for the Queer Guy" Here's to hoping.

No that'd be stereotyping, so they're just gonna have perfectly normal television

I'm not so sure about having a gay channel. I have to admit it, I hate most gay-related shows and movie. Not all, just most.

It's just that it seems most gay shows and movies I've seen only ever focus on one thing, being gay. I like shows that have gay characters and don't make it the whole thing. (Buffy for one, but even with Willow they almost made a very big deal about it!) That's something I'd like to see on a Gay Network, not Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Basicallyy shows with gay characters, but focusing on every possible storyline other "Oh they're gay, how will their gayness affect this plot!"

Howabout Oz? How do you think that show handled the issues?

I'd say the only real gay relationship I saw in Oz was Beecher and Keller. Everything else was just rape and power.

Even with Beecher and Keller they didn't handle it in a way I'd have liked. It seemed more about power in their relationship.

How did Oz end? I missed the last episode.

That is because scriptwriters typically have only one brain cell, so anything more complex than a "straight man" ( from the comic routine point of view, that is) and a wise-cracked one-liner is beyond them.
Have you ever seen the VH1 show called "Super-Secret TV Rules Revealed"? They examine the phenomenon they term "Gay But Not Gay", looking at TV shows that have quasi-gay characters but never said it for certain like Anthony from Designing Women.

I can understand the desire to create a safe haven, but if the homosexual community wants to begin capturing a larger television market share or reach a wider audience, then having an "all gay" cable channel will not accomplish those goals. If the network fails, then other networks will be less inclined to attempt programming that has a poor performance record.

This is what i don't understand. They struggled so long just to be recognized, to be taken seriously, and then they come up with things like this. They place themselves right back outside the society with freakshows like this.

Well, just because it's a gay show doesn't mean it was made by someone gay.

Besides, how many gay people actually watch Queer Eye? I only know about one; everyone else that I know who watches it is straight.
