Maybe I've just missed it, but I can't seem to locate (in the manual) any listing of spells you can find in the game~ I would have thought that this would be something normally included in a rpg game manual..

Does anyone know where a list of spells can be found?

Thanks much,
dh

This is not included in the manual because only the effects are listed.

You cannot list all the possible spells and combinations in a manual, it would be 100000000000000000000 pages long! There are an infinite number of spell combinations, all of which can have personalized names.

Morrowind does spells different than other games. The manual list the basic spell types available. Those are all the single spell effects in the game. Merchants sell variations of those basic spells.

For instance, the manual lists the basic spell type Shock Damage. Merchants will sell spells such as Shock, Shockball, and Lightning Storm, which are all variants of that basic spell type, the differences between those 3 variants being range, damage, and duration. Merchants can also sell combination spells. They can be multiple effects of the same spell, or a combination of spells. A merchant might sell a spell called Flameeater that has two basic spell effects, first an effect that raises your fire resistance, and second a spell absorption effect.

The actual # of possible spells in the game is: 500+ basic spells
and 150 billion, yes BILLION additional spells you can create.
3244 NPC`s
6 standard-size novels worth of text
300+ dungeons
316,042 hand placed objects
480 BILLION- Total # of different characters you can play

Those are some heavy duty stats, Straight outta the current PC GAMER magazine.

i think what hughs wants is not all the possible spells but there actual abilities.
like telekinesis, i think that allows you to sneak stuff from far away but not to sure. there are abilities of spells that the book just doesnt tell you what they do

Straight out of the manual:

"Telekinesis - Allows the target to pick up items, open containers, or open interior doors from a distance. The magnitude is how far, in feet, the target can reach."

Now how does the book not tell you what telekinesis does? Unless your completely braindead, the above definition of the spell's effect is more than enough.

dhughes, -save your game right before you buy some spells-, test them out , return to save game if you dont like them.
I have tried the offensive ones out on the NPC's who sold me them and just re-loaded after that. A little extra time but its worth it. Some of the definitions of the spells can be a little tricky for sure.
Like "Recall" and "Mark" for instance. How could you know what these did without testing them out.. Good travels!

What _do_ recall and mark do? I'm now a magic-user (witchhunter) so it'd be good to know.

Testing spells out for real is IMO the best way to understand their workings. Through ALL the RPG's I've played I tested them.

Ad I've saw those numbers about total # number of diff. spells and chars, but I also read that that was a highly over-rated estimation of the actual number of combinations. Just like they say about the Final Fantasy series:"Over 300 hours worth of gameplay!". Come-on!
