Long Sword: the Evil Doer

Description:

The sword glows a dim red light. If a fighter wields it into battle, the blade will glow brighter and redder according to the increase in the wielder's lust for blood. This sword was forged by a duergar named Erraek Ironhammar, a gray dwarf of clan Ironhammar. He spent his whole life in the underdark drow city Manoshkunza. (note: manoshkunza was never recorded in any history timeline because it was just simply too weak a city compared to others.) He was one of the Crafters of the city. A title honored in name, though in fact he was nothing but a slave.

Granting titles such as "Crafter of the city's name" to duergars was an old tradition among the drows when they first fled to underdark. Despite drows' devil natural, they were in desperate need of magical items. When Duergars fled to underdark after dark elves, the drows quickly took notice of the gray dwarves' exerllent skills of craftmanship. Even though drows were descendants of surface elves, their crafting skills were not as good as the duergars, let alone they needed a large number of valuable drow soldiers to wage war. Duergars stood out to be the perfect choice. Among all the slaves, the Crafters owned a higher station, and they usually had the power to command all the other slaves provided by their masters. Also they did not have to serve in the army, which normally meant death and cannon fodder.

As years went by, the ever-cunning drows learnt the ways of forging items with the dark element of the under world, so the tradition of "the Crafter" quickly died out.

But before all that happened, Erraek Ironhammar enjoyed his social status. He put all of his mind into forging items, which was his way to please his slaving master. During his life span, he crafted many powerful artifacts, one of them is "l' Vlos Ssinssrigg" It means "the Blood Lust". The surface elves call it "Evil Doer" instead, due to the sword's vicious and corruptive natural.

Its wielder, a drow named Aurio Pael' Dyrr used it in the battle of the Dark Court Slaughter in -4400 DR. It was a battle inflicted on the Elven Court and Sharpil. Aurio Pael' Dyrr, as the leader of his two hundred drow foot soldier squad, claimed the lives of many clan leaders of Elven Court. His duergar-made sword made its first time appearance on the surface and it was quickly known for causing the victim terrible agony before death.

Years later, the legendary Shevarash the Black Archer, later known as the Night Hunter and Arrow Bringer, also demigod of the Seldarine, partook the job of hunting the wielder of Evil Doer. Aurio Pael' Dyrr died in the confrontation, though not by Shedarash's arrow, but his own kin's blade. The reason was after the Black Court Slaughter, Aurio Pael' Dyrr became famous and obtained numerous positions in various consitutions such as "the Male Fighter School", and that brought jealous preying eyes upon him. Nonetheless Shevarash brought back the Evil Doer to surface, and it was then courted in the musum of elven city Yrlaancel, city of peace, at Rystall Wood as a reminder of pain and suffering.

Stats:
Type: Long sword
Dmg: 1d8 +2
Thac0: +3
Special:
the sword is considered as +2 weapon

the sword deals out damage according to its wielder's rage and lust for blood. an angry berserking fighter would trigger the power concealed within the sword.

there is a 1% the wielder will go berserking

when the wielder is berserking:

the wielder lowers his aligment by one level. (Law good to neutral good, etc)

the sword does +3 bleeding dmg
the sword burns the target +3 fire dmg
the sword stops the target's regenerating process, it can be cured by a Cure Disease or a Potion of Regenerating or the mage spell Trollish Fortitude. When the regenerating process is stoped, the victim CANNOT recover from damage, and he CANNOT be healed as normal (because his body rejects healing spell).

Note: the berserking stage can only be accessed by the sword, that does not include the natural berserking ability of a berserker or barbarian. HOWEVER, Moral Failure: Berserk does trigger sword's power.

Usable by:
Fighter
Thief
Bard
Druid
