If you have Windows, go to the control panel. Then double click on the 'system' icon. At the bottom it should say the amount of RAM your computer has.

Hi Ertai!
Best way to be sure is to actually open up the grey little box and have a peak, or to check your mainboard manual. There you can see what types of RAM it supports. If it is alot of different types it supports, better have that check, and if you are not sure after that, bring one RAM chip to your store and tell them to give ou more of that type

Go to your control panel, check there to see if you have any kind of diagnostic programs. My compaq has Compaq Diagnostics there. I can click on that and then the Memory icon and it tells me what I have for memory on my machine including RAM.
****example****
64 meg of DIMM (synchronous)........slot 1
64 meg of DIMM (synchronous)........slot 2
***************
You might also try C/NET to see if they have any free downloadable diagnostic programs.
I hope this helps.

if you have DirectX it has a diagnostic program. Just go to Start/Run and type in DXINFO.

Not really being too techie I would recommend...

1) Read your motherboard manual to see what bus speed / RAM configs you have as options

2) Surf for the best available RAM bargains

3) Buy it, install it, ( involves taking off your pc's cover and fiddling about a bit) and have fun

Sorry if that sounds patronising, but that is the route I followed when I upgraded my RAM.

Most computers that arent over 1 gigahertz, pentium 4 types or equivalent, will support SDRAM. They generally come in 2 speeds. PC100 or PC133. Unless you have a newer pentium 4 which supports a completely different type, youll have PC100 or PC133. Also if you have Norton Utilities (which has a lot of great features) it has a system analysis feature. You can get a free 30 day trial version at www.tucows.com ..... its a 44 meg download. my advice is to get it because it has a registry doctor and will let you clean invalid entries. Also Speed disc is a much better defragger than the standard windows tool.

I would take a pretty safe bet that you would get away with a Stick of PC133 SDRAM, it's the most common type as it wil lwork weather your machine is using PC100 or PC66, it's backwards compatible and it's unlickly your machine is using registerd ECC Dimms or anything like that.

Most helpful piece of infomation would be, What Motherboard do you have, if you can't answer that then what kind of processor do you have?

You might want to go check the memory prices at www.pricewatch.com
