Everybody knows the US is just in it to protect it's oil interests. Everything else is irrelevant. What people seem to forget though is that every other nation (including my own esteemed government) is also in it purely for the oil. If you live in the West, get used to the fact that your government cares not a whit about Saddam's weapons, his torture of his own people, or anything else. They just don't care. However, Iraq has oil, and that is what they care about.

Don't be fooled - the USA is in it for the oil, but every other country is just as bad.

As far as I can see, the only thing that irks s is that if the USA wants to control middle eastern oil, good luck to them! It'll probably be better for other western nations if that were the case. Just please, please stop trying to convince us that you're gearing up your military might for any altruistic purpose, or because Saddam is a bad man, or because you think Osama is there, or because Saddam is a murdering torturing dictator, or because you think his fluffy pink shoes are an affront to humanity. You're not.

Correction : We are not. You're in it to control the oil supply. We're all in it with you, and our motivations are exactly the same as yours. We just get annoyed at being patronised by the USA expecting us to believe that this is all about championing the free world. It ain't. I don't care that it's not. Poeple generally don't care that it's not. They just don't like beiong patronised.

EDIT : I was going to correct the many spelling mistakes in here caused by lack of sleep and the unreasonably late hour I'm typing this, but seeing how many there are, I just can't be bothered. So there.

Barden, I must say I'm a bit flabbergasted and insulted. But, I understand everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion... I dunno. Well, what one man's truth is another man's lie. Not that I COMPLETELY disagree with you, but even a government skeptic like myself doesn't believe that this is entirely about oil. Again, each to his/her own.

There is a book that just came out recently that talks alot about our (US) relations with the Europe. With the main point being that our next great advisary will not be Islam, but the EU.

Oh please! The EU will never be a threat to us. They are about as dangerous as the canadians.

A very arrogant (and seemingly typical) reply.

And that is exactly why it hasn`t been released yet. Prototype cars which run on either water or a oxygen/hydrogen mix have been around for years. But there is alot of dirty work being done by someone to keep these cars from becoming common. Last year someone who was working on one of these cars in NZ was beaten up, and his workshop wreaked. The same thing has happened to at least a dozen other people who I could name, all of whom have had working, non-polluting, cars.

Very interesting thread.
I too believe, that mostly it has to do with oil. Where it is not, it has to do with power politics as someone else stated before (I am not talking about the USA alone) - and then there is not really a difference inbetween. It will be difficult to convince me, that we send out our troops to restore peace and freedom to everyone. Why? Well I guess we would have to send the troops to far more places that would deserve this. There are countries in Africa having civil war for decades where millions of people have been killed by bombs, bullets, mines and starvation. What about former Yugoslavia? Ok, we sent troops there... They were armed with walkie talkies.

Another thing I'd like to say: Here in Germany you have to be very carful when criticizing american politics. In no time you risk to be accused of *antiamerikanismus* (I don't know if it can be translated). Don't get me wrong. They don't put you into jail for it or something like that. But if that happens, you'r in trouble and you have a lot to explain to the world...
Why this has to be? Do I have always to agree with american politics (or any other)?. And when I don't, why should't I have the right to express myself - it's all right I guess as long as I do it in the right way. And then: America and any other country still has the right not to care about (and as long as it's for my opinion that's exactly what will happen - me thinks)
Does this make us adversaries? I don't think so and I surely don't hope so!!!

P.S.: Sorry for my poor english but I hope I could explain myself. Just to make it clear... I don't have the intention to insult the americans. If I did I'm truly sorry!
