Hey! I've played Zork a long time ago. Strange how I was thinking about whatever happened to that game earlier today, and suddenly, I see this thread about it!

Ah the good old days of text RPG's. My dad once made me one on the commodore and I had quite a lot of fun with it.

You can't kill the thief until you get him to open the mechanical egg. Then you kill him with the rusty knife.

thanks for all the replies. I'm liking the T.o.M.E one, it's neat, very D&D like (god, I'd kill for a group of PnP D&D players in my area... actually, look for a post on this soon), and the minor graphics simplify gameplay while still allowing the amount of imagination that text based RPGs allow.

One more question though:

Are there any text based RPGs that I could play co-op with a friend?

thanks

most MUD's (look at the mud connector link above) allow for alot of people to play at once, finding a fun, stable mud is another story, but if you find something you like, go for it.

Theres at least one multiplayer version of angband (ancestor of ToME) but I dont know how well it works. Presumably its much closer to V than ToME. YOu can find info at www.thangorodrim.net
