i'm just glad they were around when they were most needed, cause if they were not, we-the europeans- would all be speaking german these days. I'm still grateful for this, no matter whatever treaties are broken by bush.

And now we can add another thing the US goverment won't be a part of:

The permanent international Court on warcrimes and genecide (I Think that what it is called)

Reason: It could be used by 'hostile' contries to press frivolous charges against americans

Go figure

I'd like to know how an 8 month stale thread was found and restarted... does the history really go back that far on the board... and Dreamer did you find this thread or was that an accidental cross-post?

Look at the dates... 9/5 - 9/8!... it's interesting how some things have changed since then, but most of the points raised are as valid today if not more so. Too bad the thread didn't span the 11'th, if it did I'd LOVE to have seen how this subject was dealt with given the frame of mind the world was in at the time.

Actually, I came across it when I was doing a search for an old topic of mine. Didn't check the date. But at least its a good chance to see how opinions have changed in a few months

Actually I read the "official" US response to the issue, and it was a bit more complicated than that....but it was an issue. And "BUSH" is not alone in running the country, the American Congress has equal say. As does the Judicial Branch of the government.
I know - any treaty that the President signs has to be ratified by Congress - but it was the White House that "undid" former Pres. Clintons signature - not even bothering to have Congress ( where there was great opposition) reject it.

P.S. Since the thread-starter doesn't wan't americans posting here - perhaps we should move this subject to a seperate thread.

EDIT: I have started new thread - but the quotes went haywire when I copy/pasted this post - so I just used my initial post. So Magik -if you want to be a part of the new thread - you'll have to repeat your arguments. Also - I wasn't sure if I could (morally?) take your comment and transfere it. Oh well - now it's started.

I think US is greate have no problems with them at all and i think that Bush is not THAT bad he have som ideas but that dont bother me!
Only thing i think is a little wrong with the US is saying no to the Kyoto treaty was a pretty stupid idea and that they wont forbid that land mines!

And i think Bush did a greate thing after september 11 that he put up a war against terorisme.
I have been in USA 3 times and it is a greate contry and they have nice pouple there to!

Alls I can say to the rest of the world is wait, in four years it'll all change. I just hope that during this time the Bush doesn't rekindle the military industrial complex that fueled the cold war, for he sure is pushing Russia's buttons with the whole ABM and missle defense thing.
I guess you didnt read the very first post asking for opinions and not specifying which nation the person replying should be from. I gave my honest reply way back on 9-9-01.

Quote " just what impression is the United States making on the world right now?"

I see No specification that even implies that an American shouldn't answer. You are the one obviously unqualified reply cause you failed to read the very first post.

Just to clarify... I wasn't asking my fellow countrymen NOT to post to this thread, I was asking for the overall view from the people of other nations. There was a a lot of international exchange of opinions on IW in the weeks before the 9-11 events, and most of it had to do with the American administrations' policies, and how they affected other nations. Unfortunately, much of this exchange was buried under the wave of hyper-patriotism following the terrorist attacks on America. It would have been interesting to see how George W. would have fared had the terrorist attacks not occured and supplied him with the political crutch of a holy war.
