Fear not dear ones. The dirty dog is still an unmitigated swine. Fancy telling all of you that I called his poetry adolescent angst.
The cad -

I NEVER SAID THAT!!!

Actually RD these are pretty good. I especially like the first ones, as I am a fan of understated poetry with a lot of repitition.

Cloudypie...I knew you did, so I have asked him before if I could email it to you and he agreed... but that would be unfair, I want to post it here for all to read
Waluin, he actually used that quote in his story!
Great to see another Tennyson lover
I'll sing for him Cloudy if you think that will make a difference (Seb will probably be thinking more along the lines of a striptease I guess )
Oh well, I'll get him to give in yet...

To clarify - by repetition I mean use of a line or a phrase repeated within a poem to add symmetry and continuity to it, and also to strengthen its emotive power. Used clumsily it is trite, cliched and can kill a piece. However used skillfully , like Rudy did in his first poem, it is very effective.

I wrote this tonight, with a lot of help from RD who has been really good at getting me to write, encouraging me as I do and helping me with the rewrites. Thanks Muttly, you are a star and I OWE you
As you can see I use repitition as one of the strongest tools in this poem.

The Dance

Silently they sit and shyly watch
The shadows waver on the white washed walls.
Shadows dance like moths around the
Flicker of the fragrant candle flame.
Slowly drawing ever closer to
The lure of lovely light and warmth
And the certainty of fire
That will burn away their wings
To wisps of silver ash
Blown away upon the gentle winds.

Nervously they sit and softly talk
Words that weave a pattern in the scented air
Words that dance around the brightness of
Their fragile hopes of light and love
Slowly drawing ever closer to
The lure of loving, and of warmth
And the possibility of fire
That will burn away their hearts
To wisps of silver ash
Blown away upon the gentle winds.
