I voted 2.5 assuming it meant players options rules. I didn't invested 15 years and hundreds of dollars in books to give it up for a new system. I dont mind 3e as I have playyed it in NWN and IDW2 but nope I wont be paying homage to the wotc cash cow anytime soon, probably never. Plus we play with ample house rules that allows for much of the flexibility as far as class/race that 3ed offers. I'm in the process of converting certain feats over to 2nd ed rules so my fighter can cleave and such.

3rd edition doesn't have as many arbitrary limitations.
Also the skill system is vastly superior to the proficiency morass of 2nd ed. If we are just talking the general rules 3rd edition is clearly the superior one. The only thing I have a beef with is that the psionicist is obviously the weakest character class.

Having only experienced AD&D through CRPGs, I'd have to say that I prefer the 2E rules over the 3E. Then again, that's probably because I prefer PS:T and BGII over NWN and IWD2.
P.S. Acronyms rule!

Personally I have invested so much money in d&d books, that I just take the best of all rules and mix them together and leave cloudy areas at the dm's discreption. That way I can use all of my books and get all the benefits from each one.

I prefer second edition rules. I tend to think that the rule sets have been dumbed-down over time to appeal to a greater (and perhaps younger?) audience. I feel like my intelligence is being insulted in that I supposedly don't understand that lower AC is better than vice versa. Not that I was ever much of a D&D player anyway
