Ok, so I'm not that nOOb anymore and I know there are several spells that may protect you from a Beholder urge to kill everything in it's sight. BUT, I feel that most of the times in BGII, specially when it's quite obvious, from a RPing perspective, that your chars don't know what is behind the next door, as cheat to buff the hell up and then fight the monsters. Ok, you are going to fight a certain named Vampire, well that's fine, it's even realistic if you buff up, but let's say you step through a certain door and suddenly is attacked by 2/3 Beholders, you should not be buffed up, as your chars would not know of the said Beholders
Ok, with my introduction done: the fastest way I know of killing Beholders is with a decent fighting forward line, but that tactic has a small problem it depends on a Beholder not stonefying my entire front men! hehe. So, besides buffing up like hell, what I would like to know is what are yours tactics to kill'em. later.

Well I usually equip the Shield of Balduran and watch them die.

Buff like hell in any dungeon. You don't know what is behind the next door, but it's very likely that something is and that that something is dangerous.

If you truly want to RP, scout ahead with someone. Very few RP scenarios involve just "stumbling" onto a Beholder, if they did they would be dead quickly.
Instead, they knew ahead of time, and avoided it (which would be the smartest thing to do, but you don't get exp that way ) or prepared. [ 09-18-2004, 08:01 PM: Message edited by: silencer ] |

Buffs don't help since they are dispelled with beholder's Anti magic ray. The only (non-cheesy) way to prevent that is Spell Shield. When you are buffed AND protected with Spell Shield, then you can fight them in a RP way.

Yep, you could scout ahead with a character, that is invisibil/hidden in shadows, to see if there are beholders ahead. You can then use the Cloak of Mirroring or Shield of Balduran to avoid their spells. But beware these two do not effect the Elder Orb's imprisonment spell.
