Ok, so I've had a cold or what started as allergies and sure as heck feels like a cold now!

Stuffy head, congested lungs, coughing, occasional sore throat, sneezing and runny nose....ugh

My family 'cures' are basically ways to make the symptoms feel better:

Lots of liquids like hot tea and water
honey with lemon if the throat is really sore
steam (vaporizer)
decongestants
chicken soup
throat lozenges or spray
snuggling up under a blanket and sleeping

So what sorts of things do you do when you have a cold? What did your moms do? Any family remedies?

Yes first post. *looks around this is not the cafe*

Sorry to hear about the cold Cloudy sounds like you are on the right track the only thing that I would add is taking loads of Vit C and I take Echinacea as well. It is a herb and not the one you smoke

Get well soon.

Throat losonges don't work for me *ever* I'll just pop them in one after the other, no effect whatsoever. Except surprisingly minty fresh breath. I prefer hot tea, with lemon and honey.

Echinacea is supposed to boost your immune system. I think it might be psychosymatic, you THINK it works so it does. Vit C is more proven to boost it, but there is no reason to take a ton, your body can only process so much of it, and it does not store it, so 100-200% of the RDA is enough. "Tons" won't do much. I have found that the cold medicine Thera-flu works best. There are >1 flavors, but the lemon one is best. It's like hot lemonade, but works fast, as well as making you drink plenty of water, and I find it the best one. Of course, I am resistant to all medication. I can take 2 percosets with only mild pain relief (1 usually knocks out anyone I know that has had it). I take 4-5 aspirin at a time for a headache. So I end up taking Maximum strength night time Thera-Flu for during the day. Doesn't make me sleepy, but would you. And true enough MagicK's cure is guaranteed, if you mix it well with rest.

Edit: Oh, and of course Get Well Soon!

I use William Faulkner's remedy: take a double old-fasnioned glass, put 1 tsp of sugar and the juice of a lemon in it, add 3 cloves. Then, heat up (on a double boiler) 4 oz of Jack Daniels' Black Lable Tennessee Sipping Whiskey. Pour into the glass. Fill glass with boiling water. Garnish with lemon peel and nutmeg. Wrap terry cloth towel (white is best ), folded over, around glass. Drink ... but slowly.
