This is my third startup, I wasn't happy with my characters the first two times. What I did find out though is that it's very important to train between each level. I'm just starting Castle Shurengen and most of my characters are maxed out or very high in most of their attributes.
All of them can train in multiple locations for an even greater boost. I get the quest for another role, join the new guild then cancel the quest. They stay in the new guild even though they are no longer training for that role. Doing this allows for multiple training; for instance training twice in sword for EACH level. This may offend some of the purists out there but for us semi-novices it can be a real life saver. |

Yes, training at the guilds leads to a more awesome party.
FYI: the maximum value for the eight attributes is actually 24. You can distribute the points you get for advancing level to take an attribute up to 18, and you can get to 20 by buying the attribute training from the guilds. To get the last few points, however, you need to invoke ankhs (anybody can use) or the amulets of healing/silence/holding (boost strength attribute, useable only by wizards/warlocks) or the ring of mariin (boost intelligence attribute, useable only by wizards/warlocks) |

It's true that the maximum level for the eight base attributes is 24. However, in the guilds you can only train up to 18. To reach higher levels for the base stats you'll have to invoke ankhs and amulets. Also, not all attributes, for example will, can be trained in the guilds.
When it comes to skills, such as sword, axe, traps and locks etc the maximum training level in the guilds is 12. If you want to reach higher levels you'll have to distribute skill points when levelling up! The number of skill points you get each level is dependent on your intelligence. //Jazzid
