I doubt that Ziroc would allow me to post the picture that proves the kill...sorry. A dart sticking out of the eye of a pesky rodent is usually not well-received by the masses.

BTW, I called my dad to tell him of the kill...and of course my story was one of extreme talent, but he was not buying it and insisted that it was a one-time lucky-as-all-get-out occurance.

What surprises me even now is that I was able to have the force in that shot to pass straight through! I mean...I do not have the lungs of a bear or whatever, so my shot was basically slow-moving. From 32 feet, I had to have lost sufficient momentum. The darts are merely little pointed metal rods with plastic circular things on the end.

The eyes are pretty soft and the brain is soft and if it went straight through the n it didn't hit any bone which means that it shouldn't have stopped in the middle of the head...

Not to be a killjoy or anything, Larry, but have you investigated any non-lethal means of discouraging them from tunneling in your yard?

I've got a few chipmunks, a ton of rabbits and occasional squirrels. The rabbits are most annoying, but we try to co-exist. So far, using a powdered product from the garden center (made with coyote urine- apparently that scares prey type critters off) around my plants has discouraged them, although it has to be reapplied fairly often to do much good.

The way I see it, the moment they create a risk for kids to break their leg is the moment they become fair game.

Problem being, Luvian that killing one or twenty today will NOT stop MORE from moving in if there's some specific reason they're coming to your property. For instance, if you have a compost pile with foodstuffs in it, rats will come. If you shoot all the rats you see today, there will be more tomorrow and the next day and ... see the pattern? As long as they have enticement to come to the yard, they will.

So my suggestion was to see if there were a way to discourage them in general from even wanting to dig there, rather than kill off a few here and there.
