Default Blaargh Making Walls

Well, I have been using Dinonykos' high walls (perhaps I should use something else?) to try and make a set of church pews, but they seem to be poking out of other walls or sinking inside them... I guess that I am not sure which wall frames sit on top of which other wall frames...

Anyway, still, the high walls are wider than the default wall set, but how does one use the extra space on the sides for this kind of purpose (i.e., the pews are 3-dimensional). I hope I don't have to go back to the drawing board...

Well, here is what I have so far, in any case...

(Icons are so much easier than walls! )

By the title of the post, I thought you were about to show us the walls that your friend, Blaargh had made.

Can you post a screenshot of the problem in action?

As far as the order that the tiles fill in (look at the single-point perspective thread in the other forums for a graphic to help out if you need it), they start in the back row on the left side and fill in towards the middle, then the second row doing the same deal, and finally the closest row. The diargram of the slots is numbered 0 through 12 and that is the order they fill in.

I suspect the issue is if you have the pews on the facing wall and one or more side walls - you will get an unsightly overlap. One easy way to fix this is to make the facing wall less wide, but the easies is to not use the pews in a corner.

Edited to add:
How could I have forgotten to mention that the church pews look awesome! They may be a lot more work than icons, but the quality is just as high as we've come to expect. So, thank Blaargh for us. ;ninjas:

Yep, Manikus is right. If you look at the objects in my wall section, you can see that most of the, e.g. the bench or the shelves, are not as wide as the wall to avoid that problem. (Some objects, e.g. the rack in the dungeon in Friedrich's Revenge, would cause similar problems, since they are also too wide...) Otherwise, I think you are on a good way, the art looks good!

What I didn't mention in my first response is that I learned this all the hard-way. When doing my Academy demo, I made the benches too long and the bar too long and had to go back and do it over.
Fortunately, Uatu, your overlap issue is not as severe as mine - I had the bar overlapping a door. I had to redo that part of the level.

So that's what the numbers were for! Um, yeah, Blaargh made these walls (always blame Blaargh)

One of the worst problems was that the pews stuck out of perpendicular walls on the other side... Anyway, working in 3D makes Blaargh sad, so I hope that revising these walls isn't THAT much work... (I could do a hack job and forget about correct 3Dness, but...)

Thanks for all your advice!

Maybe the examples below can help you a little bit...

The template named "Doppelquader" and the intermediate step of the stove illustrates the problem quite well, I think: The stove had to be less broad than the wall, otherwise it would have been hidden e.g. by diagonal walls or neighbouring obejcts...

Oh, that is quite helpful, thank you! I like the grids there, too, that should help a lot as well (hope you don't mind ) The stove looks really good here even in its intermediate stage, too!

I believe the grids are available at Dinonykos' web site. If not, they should be.

I can't really post what I use (well I can, but I won't) as it's a many layered image with lots of guideline sets so that I can use them as overlays to turn on to make sure I'm doing things right.

I also have a hyper wall template that includes everything that Dinonykos has but in solid form (no white between the lines) and because of the floor and celing being included, it looks like a bunch of rainbows. Now, all I need is a magical unicorn-shaped mouse and I'm all set.

Hmm - I can see how layers would be rather useful in making walls (moreso than for icons, for example)... I will experiment with a few new programs and see what I can do...

The GIMP is a nice free option. If I didn't already own PSP and Photoshop I would use it - heck, it's not even about what I own, it's about what I'm familiar with.
