Is there a way (other than buying the monster manual) to view opponent abilities?

I believe you can pull them up in shadow keeper. Of course this will not help you while you are in battle unless you pause and minimize. Even if you do this the game may unpause your battle on you (doesn't seem to like it when you pause too long in battles).
