Just finished ToB again, when something very strange occured to me.
While fighting Balthazar I let Imoen cast TimeStop and --> time stops; only Imoen AND (Surprise,Surprise) Balthazar can move. While my little sister is casting some area effect spells to take out the other monks Balthazar keeps beating the crap out of half my helpless party.
The same thing happened to me when fighting the Ravager before getting to the Abyss.
It has never struck me before, that there are opponents who seem to be immune to time stop and use your spell to their advantage.
I've walked through ToB several times, but never been confronted with this.
Is it a bug? Or just bad luck? Or is it some explainable gameplay feature?

Yes it seems true. There are other characters who are immune to time stop. There was an earlier post, either in the TOB or SOA forum that mentioned that the demogorgon (not too sure on the exact creature) was also immuned to time stop. But don't quote unless someone else would like to confirm this. It appears maybe that only high level characters have this immunity. Yikes!

Demogorgon was in fact, immune to time stop when I fought him. He went right on kicking when Jan time-trapped him.

But the plus side of this is that you can make items that give you timestop immunity too.... which when a mage cast time stop you get to kick the shit out of them while they are trying to cast spells

Amelyssan is also immune to Time Stop. And Elminster.

Elminster has gained that power from Mystra, being one of her choosen, and Demogorgon (being a demon prince) might have some semi-divine power too. And the Ravenger is acctually one of Bhaals avatars.

How Balthazar got, though, I do not know.

Immunity to time stop (I would call it "temporal stability") is one of those esoteric chi abilities that monks may develop after years of meditation and practice at channeling their chi.

Or perhaps it was so that kensai/mages couldn't simply cast Time Stop, turn on Greater Whirlwind, and beat the snot out of Balthazar in about 10 seconds. In that sense, it's much like the wonderful effect "immune to backstab" that won't let kensai/thieves do 100+ damage in one hit.
