You're welcome to start up some serious discussion threads here, by the way. We don't have a specific forum for it, but Gen Dis is fine.

ahh, the wonders the bard has seen
what wonders yet forseen
he travels so high and low
searching for tales yet unknown

go far and fly fast my friend
your journey is far from the end
north, south, east or west
remember that your journey's a grand test

from the city to the mountains
from the urbans to the fountains
from the houses to the buildings
go now and enjoy what life brings

take care my traveling friend
watch out for the roads ahead
remember "be strong be true"
and may the blessed Lord be with you

I can recommend this Yorick, I spent a few days in Asheville NC. I can't say I did much hiking though.

How could anyone resist visiting a town called Pumpkintown? I shall add this to my list of places to visit next time I am in the US.

Lol -- sorry to disappoint you, Donut, but Pumpkintown doesn't even deserve the name "town." It is a tiny crossroads community consisting of a general store, a few houses, and the remains of a gas station that burned down 3 years ago.

Pumpkintown is a site of some historical interest, however, despite its modern day tiny size -- it was the site of one of the first colonial settlements in Upstate South Carolina, when the region was still controlled by the Cherokees. Also, the general store contains a grill which makes great hamburgers, so it may be worth a visit

I live 5 miles north of there.

Asheville is one of my favorite cities in the world. Nestled in a valley in western North Carolina, ringed by mountains, Asheville has an unusally diverse population for a small city, where new age environmentalist pagans and witches freely mix with old style southern christian fundamentalists. Art and music enjoy prominence in Asheville, there is often a festival like atmosphere, and the city boasts quite a few high quality microbreweries. Some of my favorite beers are produced there. It's a really cool place.

I live about a one hour drive from there.

It is a beautiful little city! I live about two hours away in Knoxville, TN. Yorick, if you have a day or two to spend, go there. It will totally amaze you how much different Asheville is when compared to New York and Nashvegas. It is fantastic!!! Just what kind of music do you do? I haven't heard any of your stuff, though I have seen the files being past around. I may have to get someone to burn me a disc and send it. One other thing you need to do while your here, is see an American football game! Either go to see The Tennessee Titans play in Nashville or come to Knoxville and see the University of Tennessee Volunteers play (the one I prefer, though I like the Titans too)(Notice the color of my text and ask slackerboy or nick1979 about it. They should know what that means!)!!!

Diogenes, WELCOME to the board!!! Glad to have you!!! I was responding to your Nadar question on the other topic. I didn't realize you were new or I would have said something earlier!!!

Ha! Lou Holtz and the Gamecocks are going to beat the Vols this year! And Florida too! USC will win the conference! Damn straight!

*after boasting, slinks back into a corner and begins prayer begging for favor from the football gods: "please, please, we have to beat the evil orange machine some time, this year would be good . . . pretty please with sugar on top*

Btw, thanks for the greeting Sir Taliesin. You people here at IW sure make a guy feel welcome
