Slightly weird, I got an email response from the guy just yesterday from an email I sent him in July.

Prolly his people cleaning stuff out or something? Was this a "Hey, what's up playa!" kinda email or something else? I'm curious now cuz that's somewhat freaky.

It was a form letter response to a form letter I sent during National Poker Week about keeping internet poker legal and making it regulated.

To fully fulfill your curiosity, here it is cutnpaste:

Quote:

Dear Mr. Chewbacca,

Thank you for your contacting me about online gambling legislation. I appreciate your insights on this important issue.

Online financial transactions exist in many different activities, and are a technical and complex area of the law. The underlying principles I support with respect to online gambling are clear. Gambling websites must be secure and trustworthy, for both the client and the provider, with safeguards to exclude underage participants and protect those with excessive gaming habits. At the same time, regulations must not unfairly diminish the right of law-abiding Americans to engage in legitimate games of online poker. This balance will be difficult to achieve, but Congress must continue to strive for it.

Several bills on internet gambling have been introduced in the current Congress. H.R. 2266 would delay the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act regulations by one year. H.R. 2267 would establish a federal licensing program to regulate online gambling in the United States. H.R. 2268 would establish a licensing fee system under the Internal Revenue Code for Internet gambling operators.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to allow Americans to make online transactions in conditions that are safe, secure, and reliable.

Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue.

Sincerely,
Edward M. Kennedy

That's so cool that you got such a thoughtful response. I wonder was this a pending outgoing message he wrote, or do his people simply get his views on subjects and commit them to email.

P.S. LOL @ "Mr. Chewbacca" - tell me this was not the original text .

I wish I could report we legally chnaged our last name to Chewbacca...but that'd probly be a no-go with my wife.

I too was a bit impressed by the response. Probably crafted by a staffer, but it's clear he heard his constituents on the matter and his office kept up very well with the current leglislative activity until the end.

We have lost a leader and now have some big shoes to fill.

I disagree. While he may be (in your opinion) a "good man" I find his character somewhat....lacking. Was he a good Senator? Maybe, I dont live in MA. But should he have even been one? No.

I have no idea why MA kept this coward in office other than his last name and a gigantic spin machine.
