Shieldfighting is staple for a tank. I'd go with a dwarf or half-orc barbarian or berserker. Make him a good- alignment, give him specialisation in axes and with azuredge he'll be able to take and deal punishment pretty well.

Question. Since the dual-wielding has been introduced in the game, I always dual-wield. or if not, I wield a 2H sword. Now do great fighters still use shields when you get almost the AC it provides, and you get to dish out more damage half the time?

There are some beautiful shields in BG2. I use two-handers myself, but Korgan is a true tank with his fortress shield. It all depends. My character's a fighter/mage. I have stoneskin and mirror image, I don't have much use for the extra AC a shield provides.
In regards to dual-wield, I sometimes feel like I'm the only person on this board who doesn't worship it. I just don't like the negative THAC0 it gives you. |

I think most ppl choose to go 2h or dual
instead of using shield. But as I use my fighter as a real TANK, he needs to avoid allot, so, I use him with a shield. Btw, anyone know a superb combo sword/shield for a TANK char?? |
