I've been unemployed for 6 months - I have no income. When my friends visit me, they bring me wine, beer, chocolate or cigarettes - not a bagful of cabbage. And I'm bloody grateful for that! I don't get those things otherwise, I certainly can't buy them for myself! Sometimes having a beer or a bar of chocolate provided by a mate can make the day worth living, when previously it seemed bleak.
Although, there is a lot of fun things to do with a bagful of cabbage.

I'm not that surprised that such a cause exists. I am surprised, however, that Lord of Alcohol and Johnny haven't been pretending to be homeless in this thread.

I am sure so people who love beer would pretend to be homeless. To get free beer. They need a roof over their head THEN beer.

The difference Epona, is that you already have the roof and food. I'm not saying they can't have any of that stuff. I'm just talking priorities here.

Sir Kenyth is right. Alot of homeless people have no desire to be rehoused. Alot of people who live on the street chose to be there, because of drugs, marital problems, debts etc. But have you ever noticed though, not one homeless person on the street have any grey hair? Is that because they have a fairly simplistc way of life? No worries?

That was a funny photo op thing done by a Chattanooga radio station. They gave away relatively little beer a couple of times.

Actually that's not wholly true. I don't have food, not all the time. My mum gave me a loaf of bread and so I have been living on toast for a week. Some days I go without a meal at all. Sometimes friends invite me round and feed me, or bring ingredients over so we can make a meal, which is great. But it is receiving gifts of chocolate and booze that make my life worth living right now - if I had a choice between beer and a sandwich, I would take the beer. I can live with hunger, it's the boredom people underestimate. And I get fed up with people who have never been in my situation making patronising choices about what is best for me. It's still my bloody life, thank you very much.
