I'm not interested in Wessex, Mercia, Caledonia nor the UK for that matter. The fact is England as a country exists and carries on existing as a country.
How many other countries no longer exist? How many Scotsmen know that Scotland no longer exists. You idiot. When did England or Scotland cease to be countries in their own right. How the f**k dare you tell me, an Englishman that I am not an Englishman and that my country doesn't exist. NEVER have I encountered a more inflammatory remark in one of my own threads. It is complete ignorance like yours that subjugates proud nations like mine. The kind of blind thinking that makes those of your ilk happy to lose or see lost all that your ancestry ever built up, including their national flags. Of course, your ancestry is so young you'd be happy to see England lost, it may make you look old. RIGHTO RIGHTO. ALL ENGLISHMEN, SCOTSMEN ETC PLEASE BURN YOUR FLAGS. DO AWAY WITH ALL YOUR HISTORY, FORGET ALL THAT YOU WERE EVER TAUGHT. Whatshername decrees we do not exist. We are just one big happy family all under the same name and flag. What about the commonwealth, Do they exist or are they just the Commonwealth? Do they know, have you told them? The UN doesn't recognise England huh? Well Charlie London doesn't recognise Austalia.....Poofhhh....you're gone, you're all nationless, how do you like that? I'll ring the UN in the morning and tell them to knock you off their books. The UK exists to serve our outside interests (and some of our own accepted). It doesn't mean the countries that make up the United Kingdom no longer exist as seperate entities in their own right. If there wasn't more than one....how could it Unite? Oh, so we have two countries now then or we used to but now we're one? I'm confused. Why is it I can still buy an English flag if England no longer exists. Does the rest of the educated world know about this? How about these people? http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/Links/setframe.html http://www.cofe.anglican.org/ http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/ http://www.englishpm.demon.co.uk/ http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/ I could go on...and on...and on...anon. And what's all this about? http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/ You need to tell them that they don't exist as a nation and that they aren't working for Scotland. They can't be, it isn't there. Also, tell these people not to bother, they're being misled http://www.visitscotland.com/ http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/ What's with all this fraudulence? Countries pretending to be countries...what is the country coming to? Look, these little left hand side foreign speaking UKers are at it as well... http://www.wales.gov.uk/index.htm http://www.castlewales.com/home.html Thankyou so much for enlightening me about my countrefied stupefied bastard upbringing. ENGLAND LIVES. You ever heard of patriotism.........thought not. [ 02-19-2003, 03:31 PM: Message edited by: Charlie ]

I know I'm English, and proud to be so.

The Australian flag contains the Union Jack/Flag (at school it was always called the Jack)
But I've long thought that we should take up the Eureka Flag to represent our country's spirit and diversity... "They were men from all over the world who united together. They made a difference." Charlie, I became aware of the distinction between the UK countries and their flags in primary school. Part of our history.

Leonis,
it would bother me not one jot if the Australians abandoned the Union flag in your flag. You are a proud nation in your own right. We know our ties, we don't need to be shown them in your colours. P.S. I'm not sure if you exist as a nation or not. I've forgotten our political ties. I never sent my letter to the UN either....so please don't worry. You still exist in my eyes.

“You are charlie whether you like it or not from the UK of GB and NI !” Charlie after several rereads of my post and your thread. I agree that this could be seen as inflammatory. That is not the way it was intended and I apologise for they way it was worded. The thoughts going through my mind at the time was... How can England and Great Britain both be countries at the same time? So that should have been the way I put it. Quote “I do not mean to upset you but just to discuss the issue” Patriotism is a touchy subject and I hope we can continue to discuss this topic calmly as I find it fascinating (so why did I not follow my own advice ) Once again a sincere and full apology SO…. how can England and Great Britain both be countries at the same time? Quote:
The English crown and kingdom was gifted to a Scottish king to finally bring the Island together. Admittedly there was also religious reasons, but the act of union created one country, a singular country, a country that has such a proud history (refer to previous posts in this thread) This was not done lightly and was done with a vision for the future, a future covered in glory rather than the long centuries of warfare and hatred. My folks are British, Mum born in England and dad in Scotland. They instilled in me the importance and pride of being British. They hold British passports of course because you cannot get English passports (why not if it is a country?) My sister put her life on the line in the British army (not English) for 3 years in the late seventies. This is why I have a strong interest in wether Britain or England is the name of your country not just some outside 3party interested only in stirring the waters. The United Nations as previously mentioned does not recognise England as a country, you dismiss this as of no concern or relevance, yet if the United Nations opinions do not count then who decides when a country is formed? As mentioned Charlie I sincerely hope this issue can be discussed civilly if not then I will let you have your reply after all this is your thread and leave it as done and dusted.
