Materazzi was obviously saying something that insulted Zidane in a very bad way, don't forget Materazzi is nothing but a scumbag in a football outfit. Still no excuse for what Zidane did, shame on him.

Yes, Materazzi is one of the lowest life forms on the planet, renowned for punching, kicking, headbutting (ironically) and hair pulling. Shame that Zizou couldn't control himself, he only has himself to blame.

I missed the foul during the game... that's what I get for getting ready for company. Stupid move on Zidane's part... and I'm sure he regretted it ten minutes later during the penalty kicks...

So that was that, Was this world cup a success? Given that even Sepp Blatter thought the refereeing was a disgrace, that there was no standout player or team, have we just watched the worse world cup for many a year?

Coupled the above with the disgrace that is going to rock football in the next few months in Italy we could have the situation of the World cup holders being banned from football because of the bribes / corruption.

In my opinion, the worldcup was not a succes. Organisation wise it was, but if there's one thing you can leave to the Germans it's just that. But scoring wise, it has been one of the worst worldcups in our entire history. Fairplay wise, this WC was downright dissapointing. Never before have i seen so many players taking a dive and never before have i seen so many players beg for yellow cards. Teams like Portugal and Italy gave a whole new meaning to the word "disgusting".

That sorta sums up my thoughts as well Most annoying to see Italy win it all after the numer of teams that owned them for much of the match. Hero of the world cup without a doubt is the man that kept bobbing up again and again and again - Grosso. More of an anti-hero in Australia of course .

Personally, I wouldnt put Italy and Portugal in the same level of dirty play, for me Portugal were pretty much a disgrace to the whole fifa ideal of fairplay, Whereas Italy fair enough had some questionable moments but what team didnt?

IMO Italy deserved to win as there was no other team that displayed a quality of football anything close to the italians.

All in all I guess it was a fairly dross World Cup but then as Scotland were'nt involved this time round I never expected anything special
