Personally, it really bugs me how someone can accept something blindly based upon one source (ie. the bible).

I personally do not at present beleive in a god, as i can see no place for such an entity. People use god as an explanation for the nature of things, yet for me this just creates more questions, so god cannot be the 'answer' as such. I feel the notion of a god was created mostly because we humans hate the idea of our frail mortality. I personally am not ecstatic about ceasing to be in (hopefully) 70 odd years or so, but i accept it even though it makes me feel better to deny it. The idea of a god and a heaven is a very attractive idea, as it gives people what they want most, a perceived chance at immortality of a sort.

Anyway, i'm done now

No one accepts blindy, it is a belief we choose to follow.

Actually, I question everything - or most things at least - and well, to be quick frank, I'm a cynic.

And the idea of immortality, to be perfectly honest, hurts my mind. I think in a way, I prefer the concept of mortality then immortality.

So your soul going to heaven (or hell) is not immortality?

Well, I think that jumping from believing to atheism on the basis of one sermon is a bit extreme, but it may have been a case of "the straw that broke the camel's back." Personally, I have been a believer since youth, and nothing in all of the science I have learned (B.Sc. in Biology, Tulane University; M.D., Southwestern Medical School) has made me think anything but, "Hm, so that is how He did it."
As Einstien (guy with the funny hair) said once religion or faith is of no value unless it is personal (paraphased by me) Or as James wrote show me your fatih without your works and I'll show you my faith by my works.(second chapter of James)or as Paul wrote who are you to judge anothers servant?(14th chapter of Romans specificaly talking about things not mentioned as don't but left up to ones conscience {sp?} )

Cerrek the problem I have with using Duet. is Paul writes that if we are to keep the LAW we must KEEP the whole Law, not bits and pieces. Christ set us free from the Law.
It's suppose too, in Ecclesiastes or Proverbs (I can't recall right now at 3:00 AM) It says "God has put Enternity in our(mankind's) minds but not allowed us to grasp it". (Paraphased by me)

Ach, I had a rant written here, but it was mostly pointless.

Let me just say instead that Harry Potter is the son of satan, and everyone reading it should be burned at the stake. (kiding, kidding! )

Can i shape the discussion to a slightly new direction, we seem to be running out of ideas .
Right, what do you think "Heaven" or "Paradise" is? I always thought it would be like life but without the wrong doers, who were all sent down into "Hell".
Then a certain religious fanatic totally shattered this illusion by telling me that in "Heaven" we dont remember out lives and we live to worship God without choice. How is that Paradise? That is just mindless slavery.
What are your guys views on Heaven and Hell, anyone else been told or believe what I was told about Heaven?

Well, as I've said Felix I do believe in God so I most definantly believe in Heaven. I found out awhile back that it says in the bible that when you die and go into the big blue sky, you forget all the "bad memories" and most of them at that and you're filled with boundless happiness though I could never imagine such a thing. I would like to keep all of my memories, both the good and the bad, because that's what makes us who we are you know?
My idea of Heaven is something like... actually I don't really know what it would be like. But I guess if anything, it would be something similar to In What Dreams May Come, we make Heaven what we wish it to be. It could be from floating along the clouds to any other number of things. Heaven to me would by fishing beside a lake by a house, playing with all the animals I once had.

That would be Heaven
