Okay, tried posting this earlier, to no avail.
I have a few questions in setting up an older computer for my sister-in-law. 1. Removing programs from startup -- how to do it best? Control panel, delete from Start menu --> Startup folder, delete using Windows Explorer? Which is best? 2. Computer is a P2 650-700 Mhz with a dial-up AOL connection. I have a choice of AOL 8 or 9. What are the comparative differences and which is best considering the surfing speed limitations of this setup? THANKS AND MERRY CHRISMUKAH!!!! |

Not all programs are started from the Startup folder (using Explorer or deleting from Start->Startup are both the same thing). Some programes are run from the Registry.
To see what is loaded on startup, goto Start->Run. Type msconfig. There is a startup tab. The tab will show a listing of all modules that load on startup (either by a startup shortcut or by registry launch). You can find and remove the programs from there. If you are not familiar with RegEdit, don't play there! You can seriously HOSE the machine.
