*EDIT on 1-8-03 deleted the link to the screenshot to conserve bandwidth*

Gareth was giving his opening speech, IN ISHAD N'HA! ScreenShot: Not Available(I was reading the rules and regulations and it says your not supposed to attach files, for security reasons, i'll edit and attach if its allowed) I don't know if this is an unknown bug or a very old one that hasnt been brought up for a while. When I ran into the bug, the game seemed fine, it didnt crash or slow down, so it isnt a bug that hinders the game, but a bug/trick that causes the game to do something irregular. I dont know if this helped cause the bug, but i have Win XP and DIDNT do the VirtualDub fix, what i'm suggesting is, maybe compressing the town files would prevent this or what. Ok so here's the deal, the save files are over a year old and i was using duel parties, 2 at a time, playing them for a while, saving, restarting/reverting adventures, and taking the other party out, saving, and restarting/reverting adventures. so, today, i loaded an old save game ( 1 year old), but quit w/o saving and went to the ishad n'ha town inn, i hit revert and when i left the inn w/a character, gareth appeared and starting giving his speech like he does in Valiea when you leave the inn for the first time, or restart adventures. but, i didnt restart adv. , only reverted to before they left town. i'm thinking, I restarting prior to reverting which caused him to appear as if i was in Valiea. I don't have characters in Brimloch Roon, so i don't know if you can also do it there. Maybe if some of you are bored and want a new challenge to figure out, go ahead and try what i did and see if you can get him to appear in ishad n'ha/ brimloch roon. if you do, i'll be interested in seeing what you come accross.
Thank you for reading this long post.

Interesting... I haven't paid attention to where Gareth gives his opening speech from. I may have to give it a look later.

As for attaching files, I don't see anything in the rules that prohibits you from attaching images in your post (just asking you to be reasonable in size, and defining what reasonable is). I would expect that Z would get pretty upset if people started including javascript and other things like that in their posts; too great an opportunity for nasty things to happen.

hehe I should send it to Saz, the Gael Serran Examiner should publish a new issue, espically for all the new users on the board who have no idea what GSE even is
Bungleau: My computer was un-patched and w/o virtual dub, which I believe was the major cause of this, and having 2 parties at once also caused it. B-cuz i've been using 2 parties (using the same system i stated above) for a while on a comp w/ Win 98 and never came accross that problem. Hey, perhaps its another sign you have Win XP or 2000, if Gareth is seen in any of the other towns, giving the opening speech, but I suppose this is a very odd and uncommon bug, that no one will come accross accidently.

*EDIT* Oh yea, the rule is in the faq, under "CAN I ATTACH FILES?" but it does make sense as it would make the forum load even slower for people who still use 56k modems.

Thanks for educating me, Kar_Mod1. I was looking in the rules and regulations, and didn't look in the FAQ. It is indeed there -- giving the URL to a picture or file is the best solution.

What comes to my mind is -

Was there a new character in the party? or was there a party member in the group that somehow was not in the roster.dat? Either one could be seen by the game as a "new game" and trigger Gareth to appear.

Certainly an interesting happening and would make a great Gael Serran Examiner issue!

Very strange indeed... I think Wyv´s on to something. Did you leave some "mules" in Ishad N´ha? If you do and then start a new game, you can actually select Ishad N´ha and the characters in that Inn for the new game. You can´t create characters in Ishad N´ha but you can select party members who are in the inn. That could possibly cause this. I have to try it out.

The New Bug, could be a result of a corrupt townhub file.

Just for grins... ...I copied townhub1 & 3 and put them elsewhere...then...Deleted townhub1 and renamed townhub3...to townhub1.

Next...I started the game...loaded a save, near town...went inside... and reset adventures.

I had to mouse around and watch the text screen, to find the Inn...(In the Brimloch hub...it's at the Bushi Dojo}..once I found it ...I selected a character and stepped outside.

LOL...I got to watch Gareth....Give his speech in Brimloch Roon...

Afterwards I just...dropped the original files onto the townavi folder...and everything was back to normal...

***So...KAR_MOD1...my only questions about this bug are ...

1. What triggered Gareths speech????
* Did you just reset or start a New party/character????
* Or, was it spontanious???

And
2. Are the towns all working properly now???
