It sucks cos it's unpredictable. First time, i tried to use some basic fisics to forsee his path, but it hits a wall in 30 degree and still turns 180 degree back to you. It is supposed to hit the wall at 30 degrees and leave at 30 degrees the opposite way (just like pool).

What's really frightening is when you have a character wearing the spell reflecting cloak cast lightning bolt at one wearing the lightning reflecting cloak. I only did it once - I'm not sufficiently brutal to try it a second time after what it did to those poor drow.

Philosophically, I'm chaotic evil. In practice, well.... (Dang conscience!)

Seriously though - those first few maps on BG1 were tough. I remember trying to _avoid_ monsters and was glad when Xzar and Montaron joined for them to soak up damage!

I think i did most of these stupid things with spells too, toasting myself. I never use firball or lightning bolt anymore. Anyone wonder why I'm a fighter? At least I can't stab myself. Another one for you, don't have Aerie cast prismatic spray from behind your party and proceed to disintegrate the PC and turn Minsc to stone. Whoops.

Anything that involves 'spray' I avoid...impossible to aim those things!

Yeah! Don't even LEARN it now, lol! The Lightening wand is useful, though, 'cos you can direct every bolt to hit only the ones you want it to. I like the wands. The SPELL should be just as directable as the wand, IMO!

Fireball was the big disappointment. I had no idea it was that powerful (in BG1 of course..)

Why?

Edwin's fireball is evil. It has a casting time of about zero, seems like, and does some heavy damage. It suddenly makes that comment about fryng the party in its sleep seem a wee bit more...terrifying. Yipe!

Lightning is evil! So is firball, or sunfire, or delayed blast fireball, or other spells like these ones. I'll stick with chain lightning, and call lightning any day. I wish we were able to fight outside more often.
Fried and out!

I think it's cool though, much more realistic. Makes positioning in battle so much more important. Just like a gun, why shouldn't someone get hit if they're standing in front of you?
