I'm playing NWN for the first time and am using a halfling character. I've started him out as a fighter but am going to be changing classes to rogue at lvl6. Right now I am using a rapier, which for halflings is a two handed weapon. Are there any good rapiers in the game or should I use another weapon? Also is it better for halflings to use a light crossbow or short bow?

I think you want a short sword and weapon finesse unless you have high strength from your fighter. The only difference between a shortbow and a light crossbow is 1d6 dmg for the shortbow and 1d8 for the lcb, roleplaying choice IMO. Also I found it good for my rogue to have another damage type weapon with me, a mace for bludgeoning for example as, as you probably noticed, there are lots of enemies immune to piercing or with high damage reduction against piercing, which could be a problem if you're solo or your henchman is taken out. I haven't played far so I don't know the good rapiers but a short sword might be better if you have finesse and high dex

One thing about crossbows; they only allows 1 attack per round regardless of how many attacks you normally have. They do, on the other hand, do more damage than bows.

There's a feat called Rapid Reload that allow you to get as many attacks per round with a crossbow as if you were using a bow, but that's a SoU feat not available in plain NWN.

Rapid Reload allows one extra attack if you have 2 or more attacks/round. It does not let you equal a bows rate of fire.

Are you sure? Isn't that Rapid Shot?

My manual says you get as many with crossbows as you would get with bows, but considering the sheer number of errors the manuals contain I wouldn't be surpised if you're correct. Has it been verified?

No, you're right actually. According to the feats (I just checked now) rapid reload should bring you up to par with a bow. It is rapid shot that allows you an extra attack at the price of a penalty. It may be broken but this is the first I've heard of it but then, point blank is broken too so ya never know.

I am never wrong. Ever. Except when I am totally and completely mistaken. The manual agrees with you, but the day I'll trust a Bioware manual thats been through Atari's QA will never come.

http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewto...t=rapid+reload

Its bugged, but the bug brings it closer to D&D 3E rules (which is a good thing IMHO).

Well, there's another thing that's broke then. I think archery is in bits come HotU, Zen archery, Point blank and now Rapid shot and reload .

It's not broken, the manual is wrong. As long as it still works (sort of) the same as in p&p 3rd I wouldn't consider it broken but just implemented as it should be.

Get online antryg!

Use throwing weapons with your halfling. They get a bonus for thrown weapons. Darts, axes, shurikens.
