U.S.: Favored site if tourney is moved

The FIFA Executive Committee is expected to decide Saturday at a meeting in Switzerland to move the women's World Cup from China because of the SARS epidemic.

The expected decision to move the World Cup out of China comes after a recommendation from FIFA's medical commission, which has been consulting with the World Health Organization. The event was scheduled for Sept. 23-Oct. 11 in five Chinese cities south and west of Beijing.

SARS already had led FIFA to postpone indefinitely the tournament draw, originally scheduled for May 24 in China. That was done partly because the next-to-last qualifying event, the Asian Championships in Thailand, also was postponed from April because of SARS. It was rescheduled for June 10-22
Can't blame them...

They have also lost the cykling track World Championship, which should have been held in Shanzhen in June. It will now take place in Europe.

SARS have also caused the cancellation of the World Championship in badmintom which should have beem held in Birmingham, UK - now that it a bit puzzling to me.

SARS is a joke. It's like Orson Welles telling you the Martians are invading.

Tell that to the people who lost their relatives due to SARS.

SARS is very much a reality, with a mortality rate of over 10%( 203 confirmed cases, 25 deaths) in my country. So don't you dare tell me it is just 'a joke'. It is attitudes like this that help spread the disease.

That's about 12.3%, meaning that almost one in every eight people who've got it have died. Doesn't sound like a joke to me.

That's because a lot of the contestants (30, I believe) would come from China.
And Djinn, where did you get that bit of wisdom?

It is attitudes like this that help spread the disease. [/QUOTE]I understand if you are upset from Djinn's statement Dundee, but I feel I must point out some things. You can´t really calculate a mortality rate from 200 cases. That really says nothing. AFAIK you have been hit the hardest over there in Asia since it is there the virus originated. We have it in its attenuated form I believe. However I do not believe that SARS is a joke.

Djinn, I don´t understand how you can call SARS a joke. You compare it to influenza which is a somewhat invalid comparison. You could compare it to the Hong Kong flu though. But is is definitely not a joke. If we should apply your comparison to other areas I could state that the Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a joke since malaria is taking a heavier toll in Africa.

On topic, I heard that we probably would get this tournament. So they move it out of China because of the SARS to here, the country with most SARS cases in the west.
