I'm currently in a discussion on dict.leo.org about the German translation of cloak and dagger. Their dictionary proposes "Mantel und Degen" which goes somewhere along the line of "coat/cape/cloak and epee/rapier"
My point is that the German "Mantel und Degen" is only used for "Mantel und Degen Filme" which are films similar to "The three Musketeers" referring to their capes (=Mantel/Umhang) rapiers (=Degen).
However the English "cloak&dagger" for me always represented something mysterious, something involved with espionage.
My question:
Are there "Cloak&Dagger movies" and do they represent something like Alexandre Dumas' novel or are they in fact movies about espionage? Or am I right and this is a mistranslation?

Cloak and dagger, as I'm familiar with it in the US, relates to espionage type activities... things carried out under a cloak of darkness where a dagger, a nice, silent, and quick weapon, is a primary way of "handling" things.

Sometimes, things just don't translate well between languages. I've suffered through a few...
