I am worried about the large numbers of Allied troops neatly lined up right on the border. A spoiler artillery attack of some form would mean massie casualties. Say if Iraq somehow mobilized ALL its armed forces and rushed the allies in Kuwait and Saudis. It would render air supremecy useless rapidly as hand to hand fighting will take place on Kuwait streets.
The case for defence has interesting options.

unlikely to work as the deployed forces on the border would not be sitting there in rows awaiting the enemy. The would be dug in, and prepared for an attack. The news images last night showed American vehicles in hull down positions behind defensive sand berms.

Allied planes took out at least one artillery battery and a mobile missile battery (not SCUDS) yesterday that could threaten allied ground troops. It was the first attack on such targets since, I believe, Gulf War I.

There are reports of sustained atillery attacks on Southern Iraq. B52 bombers at Fairfield in Gloucester have been loaded with bombs.
