I know that any such question as this can't be good for one's reputation, but I really need to know...

After playing Shadows of Amn a couple of evenings last week I began wondering...
Wondering about the armor. What armor is the best? In class??? The highest class or the lowest???

I feel pretty lame for having to ask this, but some one please help me out here!?!?!?!

thanks

Rimpel

It's OK Rimpelwillem (not a very English name, but you're Dutch as well, so we'll just forgive you about that). You need to have the lowest armor class as possible. Minus zero is possible as well, so don't throw a party if you found an armor with armor class 0 (which is not that bad, actually). It's easy to see; chain mail naturally beats hide armor, and if hide armor has an armor class of 8, and chain mail of 5, then it's easy to realise.
Don't worry about the questions: everyone has asked such questions, and everyone at this forum is here to help one another. BTW: Welcome to the board, mate!

The lower the armour class the better but don't forget that +items subtract from your AC so they are desirable objects.

Full plate mail is the best non magical armour your fighter can wear.

Best way to think about it is that your enemy needs to roll a certain number on a 20-sided dice to hit you - his Thac0 is literally what your opponent and you need to roll on that dice 'To Hit Armour Class 0'. Now, if someone's trying to hit you with a Thac0 of 13, say, and you have an armour class of -4, he needs to roll 17 or more to hit you - that is, 13 + -4 = 17. His Thac0 is modified by your armour class. The lower your AC, the harder it is for folk to hit you. Likewise, if you have a Thac0 of -5, and you face a foe with an AC of -10, you need to roll 5 or more to hit him. See how it works?

Thanks, that really helped me out!

I got rid of those class 8 armors as soon as I played the game and indeed the lower classed armors worked better.

Wow, what a friendly bunch of people at this forum!

It's not very effective then.
