Wonder if any IW members also happen to join the 3D Realms Forums.

LadyZ it is really good to see you and be back again. I'm sorry if I worried you a little. It is true, we have lost some friends, I miss Armie the most I think.
Sir Mandorallen, you kind of had to be here. I think the single most important issue that really solidified our relationships here and our love for IW was back on "Ole Blue", when our first true troll showed up. We already loved IW, while there weren't many of us, everyone here was like extended family. This disturbed young man was extremely abusive and the entire board banded together, we just weren't going to let this young fellow insult our members and disrupt the board. Ziroc, Memnoch and the truly missed Armisael really led the battle. And just so I don't get accused of playing ignorant, I sort of helped out a little. Ziroc really won our hearts when after many unheeded warnings, banished he who at the time was "Forever to remain nameless". "Big Bagger" (whose identity Ziroc finally revealed here due to the requests of newer members who had heard about and wanted to know what had transpired) thought he would outwit Ziroc and tried to move back in under a new account. MightyZ who is not to be trifled with when his domain is attacked Put BB in his place. Zman is a very gifted networker and and tracked BB down. It turned out he was using terminals at the school he attended in Aussie land to engage in his nefarious trolling. Ziroc published all of BB's pertinent ISP data on the forum, and let BB know in no uncertain terms that he was banned, and that if he didn't stay banned, his superiors would be notified with details of his abusing his computer privaledges at school. Needless to say, BB got the hint and stayed "banned".
So, yep, we have a personal thing going here, and Ziroc has shown us how much he cares about us, and his property and has earned our respect and affection.

Well I am one of the old BG Dungeon members who came here after that forum were shut down. There were some great people there and a terrific comraderie, but it got so bad that eventually they had a forum for members who were not trolls and didn't flame. It was by invitation only and they literally screened you. The problem got way out of hand with the release of BG2. It was like a pandemic of trolls, flamers, and morons hitting the sight all at once. Think of Europe at the highth of the Black Plague. I'll never forget the day I logged on and read the notice of closure. That hurt! I wandered around until I found this sight and I love it here. IW reminds me of the good that BG Dungeon use to have. It is a great pleasure to see and be a part of people from all over the world in this IW community. We need to continue to guard what we got.

Hi Albromor, I knew there were some other members here who remembered what "BG Dungeon Tavern" was like before it went bad. I felt the same way when I first read that closure announcement. But I had to admit to myself that I had seen it coming. As I mentioned, I started out there and found IW when looking for other BG2 sites. I found myself here more and more and finally primarily here as "The Tavern" passed. It was a sad day, which I think at least for me, makes my IW experience that much more special. I've been and am a member of many gaming forums as many of us are, and like many, I have witnessed the downfall of quite a few that started out good as I mentioned above. For me and many others IW is a sort of bastion if you will. We have our occasional bad times, but on the whole, thanks to Ziroc, our great mods and members, IW has so far stood the test of time and will hopefully continue for a long time.

I visited a couple of boards while IW was down and indulged in some 'gentle' baiting of people. They probably don't even realise I've been doing it!

Personally, The Silver River and Pandaemonium are the only other fora that I have posted on, but Galadria gets around more than I, and says that the Black Isle Studios boards are great, but that the Bioware Boards are horrors. She now mainly goes to aerobics and runners forums now, and says that flaming is unknown, but that kissing up to the instructors and elite runners happens there all of the time. Bleah. If I can't have Ironworks, I don't want anything.

Hmm... the only negative forum experience I can think of prsonally would have to be Archmage forums... then again, I haven't visitted very many. Archmage... fuzzy little game. Most posts on the forums just had people reply telling the poster to search instead of posting. *shrug* I was at the BG Dungeon Tavern, actually, but I didn't visit it for a while before it closed, so I was pretty surprised when I saw the announcment... *shrug* Do exploding deathcows count as forums?

Heh, I know what you mean, LB, IW was my first forum as well, and for a while I expected every forum to live up to IW standards. I'm a member of a Deadsy message board, where someone got ragged for posting "f***ing" instead of the actual word. Gives you a pretty good idea of it.

Sounds like a....wierd place. IW isn't my first forum, but it is by far the best!
