Well, I've ventured deeper into the crypt. Still running on often, no idea what I've left the difficulty setting on. Probably the default if I don't remember changing it. I can roam around the upper levels of the crypt in reasonable safety now. Zapped Flokis'ra to death. Even managed to kill the Warrior and Wizard spirits. Damn things are immune to spells. Had to whack them to death with my little stick. A bit of advice on that fight, fry all the dang bats with spells, from as far away as possible, then kill the wizard spirit first. Much easier to kill the warrior if the wizard isn't casting 'enfeeble' on you every couple rounds. And take many heal potions to that fight. Still not quite ready to tackle the asylum though, so I've been commiting multiple Rhumphycides to get points and those wands to sell. Need cash to train stone to level 7. A few more levels will get me the rest of the higher stone spells, then I'll change classes. Was thinking Ranger or Paladin to get the magic, but Felix's suggested Barbarian looks good too. I could use the hit points and it would let me go back for all those chests. ...Hmm... decisions, decisions.
A note on Rhumphy, I saw somewhere on the board that you have to leave the crypt to get him to regenerate. You don't. He'll come back if you go back as far as the top of the stairs leading down into the room with Kerah's statue. As for the chests, been bashing a few here and there, so far always setting off the trap. You have to open the one for the bauble stick. I just bashed until I got it, and then used a cure poison potion. That one's a poison fang trap.

He comes back...after you enter, Kerah's chamber. Once you pass the door...where the gate was....

My Whiska wizard is also in the crypt now. Not quite as far as yours Tator. He had no problem zapping Flokis ra with a couple of meteors. What I didn't find was the piece of jewelry under the table above the elevator. Wasn't that supposed to be Algamesh's locket?
My biggest problem is still getting enough gold to train up to level 7 in stone magic. I think I will try killing Rumpy a few times too. The good thing about the undead is that they rarely stay dead for long so they can be killed time after time. It's a shame it is not Sabastio. When I get my level 7 stone spells I think I will go for Paladin, the spirit spells will come in handy. I wont use barbarian just yet because I want to stay a Barbarian for a long time for the hitpoints. Keep us posted on your progress. |

My intention is to take a stint at warlock but I want to get all the magic schools first so that I can take the most advantage of it.

Kev,
I like your approach, but I've got a logic problem with your desire to delay becoming a barbarian. Let me explain. When you advance a level (as I understand it), your hit point totals are re-rolled for that level. IF the re-roll is higher than your current total, you get the difference to bring you up to that level. If the re-roll is less, you get a single hit point. In my experience, I don't get much beyond level 14 before I'm ready to change classes. In practice, it's level 12, but some cases stretch out. Every time you change classes, your level goes back to one, and the reroll process continues. Only since you will tend to have a lot more hitpoints than you should at that level, you get lots of ones until you get up to around your previous level. So if you delay being a barbarian, you're going to go most of the way towards that previous level (twelve, thirteen, whatever) with minimal hit point increases. Once you hit that previous level, you start getting big increases again (most of the time). You also have the chance (remote though it is) of getting a minimal increase in a real level -- again, because everything is re-rolled. But if you go to barbarian early, you get the big hit points earlier, and while in later classes, you can take advantage of the extra HP that being a barbarian gave you while you're a wimpy warlock. The only downside is that if you go barbarian early, you might not be one when you get to the Boogre Bar. And when you visit the porcelain god, you wouldn't get your extra bonus.

Haven't gotten anywhere since yesterday. Life happened, and I haven't had time to play.
Anyway, the point of bothering to post a no-progress report, the jewelry under the table by the elevator is the Ring of Saints. It won't appear until you get the quest from the temple to fetch it. I forget where Algamesh's amulet is, but I think it's in one of the chests fairly early in the crypt. Maybe the one in that locked room in the first section. I didn't realise that casting spells in a magic school would raise your level. That would explain why I check the cost, go out and cast many spells to get the money to train, and then come back to find the training cheaper than I remembered.
