Lavindathar, you're slightly wide of the mark here. I'm not criticising Harry Potter as such, the author and the advertising are obviously not linked, and that isn't my point anyhow. What I'm not happy with is the astronomical hype and the absolute dominance of Harry Potter in the media.

And I don't see where jealousy comes into it. The word honestly doesn't figure in my vocabulary.

Things only get what they deserve in this case I think....
If it gets a lot of hype in the media, it must have been good enough to impress enough people to get that amount of hype.

thats the way i see it

Sorry, not to insult, but i wish I could do that. I mean, the books are great. I read the fourth one, which is 726 pages long in 2 days! I'm a big fan. Though i guess i was harsh. DK why its called the Philospher Stone, guess they hate to use the word "Wizard"

The hype about Harry potter hasnt annoyed me so much as has the comparison a lot of people have been making between Harry Potter and Lord Of the Rings. IMO there IS no comparison, Lord of the rings is a timeless classic that has been voted book of the century many times and is the pivitol point for many other fantasy writers. To compare these two works of fiction against each other is utter BS in my mind. But then it is only MY mind

Well Azure, Lord of the Rings is a classic. I'm glad the movie is coming out, cuz I'm seeing it! Remeber people, it was J.R.R Tolkien that made TRUE D&D come to life.

It was all the hype that got me interested in Harry Potter. I bought the book, and really liked it a lot. I then saw the movie, and it was very good. I was curious BECAUSE of the hype, and was introduced to a good story and some interesting ideas. Lord of The Rings is however still on the top of my list for movies this year!!!!!
