Im thinking of starting a Fighter-Thief with points in sword and shield style and in weapons as long sword, katana, scimitar and maybe bastard sword(even though you can backstab with that one) But looking at the huge number of incredible powerfull enemy's you will in Tob i wonder if i shoudnt just take points in staff(backstab and Golems) and two handed swords. So my questions: A) Do single handed weapons cut it in Tob?
B) If so, wich should i choose? (keep in mind that i'll have the use all abilitie) |

One-handed weapons are still very good in ToB, although I'm not sure as to the best for a Fighter/Thief. Axe of the Unyielding +5 is great, but you can't backstab with axes, so... hmm... some fancy weapons you might want to remember that you can backstab with (generally) are:
Is a list of weapons a spoiler? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? The Answerer +4, which will drop the target by 15% MR and 2 AC each hit. (Long Sword) Short Sword of Mask +5, which is a fancy little sword with a chance to do entangle on hit and can level drain the target as well (15% chance for each of those). (Short Sword) Angurvadal +5, which sets your strength to 22 and makes you immune to level drain, as well as doing an extra 1d4+1 fire damage (not insane damage, but still nice, especially against things like trolls *shrug*). (Long Sword) Flail of Ages +5 (not sure if it's +5, but I mean the upgraded version) which does, I believe, and extra 16 elemental damage total and has a chance to slow the target with each hit. (Flail) Spectral Brand +5, which gives immunity to level drain, does 1d6 extra cold damage, and has both armor piercing strike (THAC0 +10 for 3 rounds, once per day) and summon spectral blade once per day (kind of like a 1d8+3 damage Moradenkain's Sword, I think). Alright, not insanely great, but it's still very nice. (Scimitar) Crom Fayer... you probably already know the bonuses, and it's still a great, great weapon, although sadly I believe you can't backstab with it . (War Hammer) Celestial Fury is still a nice weapon, and even though not quite the best, I think, it's still good. (Katana) I know there's some weapon of death I'm forgetting, but, sadly, I can't remember what it is. *shrug* But I think one-handed weapons are definitely worth it, especially since with a lot of them you actually CAN backstab *cackle...* Hmm... my personal suggestions, using sword and shield style would be... hmm... (I never use a shield with my thief or my warrior types so I have to think for a moment) put points into Long Sword, which I'd definitely suggest, and maybe also into short sword, although not sure about that. A point into Flail would be good if you want to be able to do some elemental damage, I think, which is quite nice a decent amount of the time, and a point into hammer would probably be good too, preparing for some encounters (such as some golems, which Crom Fayer could kill in one hit, and some other stuff). If you're starting in SoA, though, an not ToB, then definitely put points into katana, since Celestial Fury is an awesome weapon for a large part of the game, and I believe you can backstab with katanas. *shrug* Hope this helps. |

*cough* BLACK RAZOR *cough*
Another snappy weapon is Hindo Hand, with its snazy greater restoration ability. Hmmm Some others are of couse: Belm (How in the name of all thats good could you forget this?!) for the extra attack per round, Yamato +4 A +4 Wakizashi with AC +1 Usunos Blade A ninjato +4, electric damage. Perfect combo for anybody hoping to run a samuri... use with Celestial Fury (lots of lightning!). Dagger of the Sar for invisiblity ability Kudane See belm of course. Dak'kon Zerth Blade is nice for the AC+1 bonus in an offhand weapon. Only +2 though. SCARLET NINJA-TO How praytell did you forget this gem!? +1 attack, +3 weapon, poison potential! Use any item... lol If you like clubs, Club of Detonation +5 is pretty snappy too. I like it at least. |

As far as two handed weapons go, there is
psion sword+5 makes you immune to all psionic attacks by mindflayers Gram the sword of grief+5 which when upgraded allows level draining, And the staff of the ram when upgraded is +6 i belive and does huge amounts (+12?) of extra damage, knocks people back and of course you can get it in SoA. Its worth specialiseing in two handed weapons and staff for that alone. |

for BG2 the cut throat is a good weapon (short sword +4), even though you don't find it till about chapter 6 it is probably one of the best backstabbing weapons. The only disadvantage is it doesn't have any special abilities which would be nice.

Also the cutthroat combined with the poisin weapon ability and a decent backstab can take out all trolls with one hit!
