Ive been playing BG2 for ages now and ive never really understood how saving throws work. I know that the lower it is the better chance you have of saving(or is that wrong?) . So for instance say my character has a save of 3 against wands what dice is it rolled on and how does it work?

You (or the computer) roll a d20 - if you roll higher than the number (incl. modifiers) you have made a succesful saving throw

So lower is better

If you are familiar with the d&d gaming system(d20 system) you will find out that saving throws are as follows:
1.You need to roll higher than your saving throw score to succeed
2.Some spells and items do certain things even if you succeed in your saving throw roll(for instance:succeeding vs a fireball spell lets you get only half the damage the opponent rolls)
3.Start playing D&D!!!It is the real thing. The PC is just a substitute.

Baldur's Gate is NOT AD&D. In some ways, it is funner, in some ways, not so fun. For instance, no sane (or insane) DM would allow you to reach level 40 (ToB), let alone slay three dragons and the Prince of Demons in one day (real time). Neither would he allow you to die, then jump back in time, or make infinite money selling stolen items from Gorch back to him, or Cloudkill a dragon outside his visual range. (all of which are funny in a sick sort of way) However, AD&D games have a huge amount of randomness to them, which makes them hilarious. in one PnP game, the DM decided i was too powerful, so a safe fell out of the sky and drained me 4 levels. I have been attacked by possessed ovens, insane chandeliers, etc. A good DM can make the boringest setting hilarious and fun, but at the cost of hours of time and ungainly setup (or being slapped in the face by interplanar travelers who do the DM's bidding). BGII is much easier, and could be considered a "prep course" for AD&D.

It's your choice. I can play BGII by my schedule, not the DM's.
