... I came across something that's almost 20 years old that many of you may be able to appreciate.
Might and Magic 1: Secrets of the Inner Sanctum was my first CRPG. And while you never forget your first, one of the things that New World Computing did back then was to give you a score for your game, and then to send it in. Years ago, I did just that. And tonight, while emptying a box of old stuff in the basement, I came across the response back from NWC. It is a basic congratulatory letter, lauding me for my wonderful gaming skills and telling me how great I was. The really cool thing is that it's actually signed by Jon Van Canegehm, founder and president of NWC. And while the company's gone through a lot between then and now, those games are still some of my favorites. I later found out that a guy I used to work with knows Mitzi Van Canegehm, JVC's ex-wife. I'm but three degrees removed Just had to share with folks who can appreciate what it would mean...

VERY cool! Yeh, I miss the good old days, when Gaming companies did special things like this. You really felt apart of something--and the company cared.
Its rare these days. These days, companies are more worried about how to save money on the manual and packaging.. Sigh... the good old days.

Well I'm clearly a n00b next to you, as my first RPG was Might and Magic 7.
Don't think I was ever good enough to send a score in, had there been an option But I certianly know I loved that, and 8... I hear there is a new one in the works?

Very cool! Those were the days. Not so many people playing, I think, so they gave extra attention to little things that made you feel good. I wasn't playing rpgs til much later but I remember how excited my friends were, who played anything that came out for the pc even on tape, back then!

BTW those games are still around. They won't play on XP but I have an earlier system on my laptop and I can still play them. Also the early Wizardrys are around. Yes I have them too. Remember the 'wire frame dungeons'?
