Its not the cold. Perhaps this scenario will help. Imagine your level 5 character just entered a room and set off a perpetual trap that launches "Gust Of Wind" at you once per second....

Not cold... YET. Until the snow is SQUEAKING under your boots and your nostrils are freezing together when you breathe it's not that cold. (Usually happens around -15f and colder)

REALLY cold is when the radio guys warn you that "exposed skin will freeze in under 30 seconds", an announcement I heard one winter up in Potsdam NY. The temp was about 30 below, wind chill was something like 65 below.

That was cold.

The hottest I ever experienced was 127f in Jeddah Saudi Arabia... so that means I've experienced 157 degrees of temperature swing.

The extremes of that swing are not fun.

hehe cold in the San Francisco area is when I have to zip my jacket closed

edit:
I should note that we did have our first snow in 20 years 2 years ago. Woke up to snow falling and about 6 inches on the ground, it was pretty cool.

This isn't cold....
I was snow blowing in shorts today

Cold is Yakima (that's in Washington State, BTW) in January, When the diesel fuel for your HUM-VEE is pumping out of the pump trucks like Jello....That's freakin cold, -50f windchill on the open short grass prairie. That is cold, my friend
