Like in Outbreak 2, with that horrible virus who kills tons of humans...Then it was a monkey who had the virus...

SARS were spread by mongooses.

AIDS are believed to have originated in chimpanzees. ..and before anyone spouts lewd comments some mid-african tribes used chimps for food. The risk of blood infection under the slaughtering process is quite significant.

Statistical question for everybody...how many people have West Nile AND SARS combined, killed in the US, Canada, Central and South America so far?

Anyone have any idea?

Hmmm, so???

It's only an infectious disease that might kill some of us. Kinda like SARS. Why the big fuss about it all? You spend more time and energy worrying about something that will most likely never happen to you. Spend the time doing something productive instead.

I think Canada is between 35-40 (most of it centered in the Toronto area). Not enough to worry about -unless you live in Toronto and you work in an hospital.

Edit: Ahhh! Sorry, the above numbers are just for SARS. No combined cases!

Thanks Ryanamur. Im beginning to think that the seriousness of both SARS and West Nile are way overblown by the press....the last numbers I heard for SARS was that it was as deadly as the flu...while any death has a very real impact to those actually affected...I think to the population at large....we are being prodded into fear by the media that is desperate for sales.

west nile
West Nile virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. THe virus can infect people, horses, many types of birds, and some other animals.

Most people who become infected with West Nile virus will have either no symptoms or only mild ones. However, on rare occasions, West Nile virus infection can result in severe and sometimes fatal illnesses.

There is no evidence to suggest that West Nile virus can be spread from person to person or from animal to person.

[the main problem is it is killing off our animals]
as for how many cases there are, no one really knows the number

MagiK,

Don't get me wrong, they are both serious diseases. Though SARS is a little less deadly than the flu, there is no cure for it. That alone is worth the notice. However, there's no need to stop living because of that!
