Sever

There was no viscera or calcined ash nor anything left on the rune tiles that could be identified as something that once belonged on a person. Sever's best judgement told him that it was indeed safe to follow the steps of his guard escort. But he took his sweet time about it.

With arms folded in a manner of deep thought, he slowly paced along the clear length of the floor a few times. To any who watched, they'd see a man who was clearly undecided on whether or not to follow the guard's lead. But Sever was not undecided. His mind was already fixed on his next course of action. The delay was purely to make the most of the precious few seconds in which he was alone in the abode of his mark.

Sever's eyes, though fixed on the tiles, took in every detail of the room. Not that there was too much to see. Oley was obviously well practiced in the art of magical intrigue. No visible switches, yet Sever sensed the whole contraption (of many functions, no doubt) could be deactivated in a blink. No visible traps, yet Sever's professional instincts screamed at him for extreme caution. In all the room, the curtains and doorway were the only features of note apart from the tiles. This room, Sever deduced, served the purposes of one person alone. Nothing was to be gained by doing anything other than what that person intended.

With a final resolute show of determination, Sever quickly tapped out the letters of the word "Nordlar", and vanished.

OOC>>>You are quite the daredevil! I don't think I would have done that if I would have had to guess at the danger. Let's see what happened to you.

For Sever:

Sever was instantly transported to a place that he recognized. It was the tavern! Somebody approached. It was the guard that was your escort for the day!

"Hey! Crazy trick, eh? That sly ol' mage heard us talking about coming to the tavern and a few steps later, here we are! I wonder if he meant for us to wait here for him...because he's not here now. Wow!...that was some trick, eh?"

Kasimno

"Okay, thanks," Kasimno said to the guard. It wasn't much to go on but it was a start, enough to plant the seed to a plan.Let's see... what to look for... Kasimno thought to himself Well they might be in old dirty clothes, that depends on how long they've been in there (I may have to to someone at the actual prison building to find that kind of information out), maybe unshaven, well more than likely unshaven. One is probably the brains of the operation-being that he said I find one I find the other-while the other is the brawn, so I'll probably be fighting. I still have no idea where to start looking, so I guess I should ask a couple more guards. with that he headed to the jail and asked one of the guards there if they had any information, or if he could maaybe get some kind of information out of the prisoners.

Milanthir, the Elven Mage

----

This may be slightly more difficult than I thought. Priests, in my experience, tend to be rather touchy about anything connected to their religion - so... Asking him casually if he's seen anyone suspicious around here probably wouldn't be a good idea. Though... Hmm.

----

...And a voice, much like Milanthir's regular one but without trace of elven accent - indeed, betraying the fact that the one speaking is an old and well-traveled adventurer (and so familiar with less erudite speech patterns) "Well, actually there is something I'm a little bosched about." feigning mild embarassment, the elf continues: "I'd heard rumor there was somewhere around here where an old friend of mine - a couple 'undred years back - stashed a weapon... that is, I know he hid some of the equipment we salvaged from a particularly nasty troll's den, but I wasn't sure where until I'd heard his name mentioned around these parts." he stops, expectantly, and realizes that he's forgotten (of course! how could I be so stupid!) a few critical details: "Anyway, I was just wondering if you'd heard anything about any secret or hidden places around here, being new to this town and such; the thing is, ol' Ironskin died recently, so I figured I'd nip around and see what he'd left behind, seeing as I'd be the person most likely to be able to penetrate the kinds of nasty traps and defenses he tended to put 'round his stashes."
All this is said rather quickly, of course.

----

Perhaps I overdid it - No matter, I don't think this particular cleric is likely to harbor any serious animosity towards me - he seems harmless enough.

For Milanthir:

The cleric seemed at first confused and maybe even bothered by the elf now that he knew his intentions here. However, long years of study had taught him to carefully consider any such event with a calm resolution, never with the first reactive thoughts that swirl in the mind of a mortal brain. After giving the question its space to be pondered, the cleric had a better answer prepared now to relate to this visitor.

"I have heard of a place or two used by thieves in this town where they have been known to seek refuge. I can guarantee you that this Great House holds no such places of the kind, nor do I know of any such location in any other establishment in town. If you have such questions in the future, you should take them to places where such men who know them gather. If you will excuse me now, I have other business to see to. Good day to you, travelor."

The cleric whisked about and started off toward a closed door.

Who'd have thought it'd be so easy to get him to go away. Still, I've some doubt that these particular miscreants would stay in any of the normal hiding places - thieves don't like the guard to be suspicious any longer than possible, so they'd likely rat them out... Hmmm.

----

"Thanks, friend." Milanthir's smile fades, and he begins sweeping the walls with his eyes, admiring the various decorations but more specifically the architecture. He contemplates using a shapechanging spell, but thinks the better of it.

----

If anyone can see past a magical disguise, it's a cleric - all that mucking around with gods makes them less suceptible to other people's mucking around. Mildly paradoxical, to my line of thought. Now... If there's going to be somewhere to hide around here, it's likely to be someplace newer - so that fewer people'd be able to find out about it. Any fresh construction? Hmmm.

For Kasimno:

Kasimno entered the jail and found a couple interviews being carried out by the senior officers of the town guard, questioning the jail-guards and a prisoner that was enjoying a great-looking steak and and pie while talking. One of the guards noticed Kasimno enter, but nobody made a move to ask him to leave. The conversations were taking place at the same time, and this is what could be heard of them.

Guard:"...so then there was a great white light, like nothing I have ever seen, and I have no idea what happened next. When I opened my eyes, it was over.

Prisoner:"...so that's when it started. Some yelling from the other room, and then BAM! This guy walks in. Before he knocked us out with his sorcery, I noticed he was wearing a dark-colored robe, like sorcerers tend to do for some reason...and then I have no idea what happened next, because when I opened my eyes, there was nothing to see except the guards running around screaming that somebody had gotten out. I don't know anything about the guy that escaped because he was here before I got in, and had been locked up in the solitary-confinement room all this time. I never even knew his name."

Oley, Just Plain Oley

Oley ignored the scrying circle and set off for Vindson's workshop, there was ayoung fool who had been following the smith around lately, perhaps he would be up for trying out heroics, if not then it was likely that whoever had been at his door would be up for it. He walked outside blinking a few times to adjust to the change in light as he started around to the back of the building.

The Guards of Lockesville:

This town had no shortage of men who served their town and kept the peace. Those men who did not want to become farmers or tradesmen turned their attention therefore to the employement of town guard, for every town had reason to need such authorities to keep the peace and defend the town in times of trouble.

Today was a very bad day to be a guard. There were assigned two men to stand at each of Lockesville's enormous gates to prevent the fugitives from escaping so easily. The strong doors had been barred shut for the time being.

There were also personal guards of both Edward and Simon Locke, who were not to let their charges out of thier sight, for they did not want the escapee to come after those that had put him in prison and try for revenge. The Locke Manor was therefore, secured.

There were those guards that had to stay in the jail and keep its walls secured. At the moment, a couple senior officers were running an investigation into what had happened there.

There was one guard assigned to see to all of Sever's needs that day, since he was to be recognized as a hero to the townspeople.

That left only four guards open to do a door-to-door search for those fugitives that were eluding capture. From business to residence, these four guards searched the entirety of the town, hoping to chance upon the hiding place of those two slippery criminals.

News Update: Those four guards have disappeared. Word has it, nobody has seen them in little less than an hour. Nobody is sure where they were last seen, because of all the commotion still happening at the fire site, some people were not home or at their shops when the guards passed by, therefore, nobody knows where the trail went cold. Even now, word is being sent to the two senior officers that are investigating the prison break. It appears that there are not enough men in authoritive positions that can continue the searches not to mention investigate the disappearance of the four MIAs.

----

Hmm. Nothing here. Maybe I should go about this in a more methodical way, instead of dealing with 'how they might think' - after all, I don't exactly have a lot of experience thinking like a human.

----

Milanthir walks out of the temple, and decides to head towards the Jail. "Mmm.." he hums slightly, thinking, as he walks vaguely to the southwest, his mind on other things.

----

So... If an escapee helped our arsonist fugitive, he's likely to be smart enough to hide his tracks... Normally. The question, of course, is whether he's left any... Less obvious clues as to his whereabouts, or more especially as to how he knew what the arsonist was doing. How... Hmmm. How indeed...
