Actually, the Paladin's Lay on Hands is not capped at level 20 in BG2. My level 34 Cavaliers heals for 68 Hp.

No negative THACO?!?! Okayyyy... looks like I am going to have to depend on magic a bit more.

The funny thing is that Priests are uber in IWD, but get shafted in BG2, while the opposite is true for Mages. My Mage can cast level 4 spells now( soon level 5 ones too as well), but is stuck with level 1-2 spells because that is all there is in the shops... ...

However... you know what bugs me the most? No sequencers or contingencies! The enemy can still spit out 4 spells in a blink of an eye while I am trying to play catch up... Gah! I am amazed by the potency of the Priests though, what with their powerful spells. Then there is the issue of adding more opposition schools to the Specialist Mages... Oh well, at least they gave more base spell slots to the Mages( except for spell level 9... ...).

Paladins, Rangers and Bards get a great boost though, in that they can cast far more spells than what their BG2 counterparts can( especially the Bard).

PS: To Jim, I recall the cap for AC to be -20 in BG2.

Not sure about SoA (even if you could get it that high without ToB), but I'm sure that you can reach a -24 AC.....

As for THAC0, the *base* THAC0 stops reducing at 0, but then you can add weapon proficiencies, strength bonuses, gauntlet bonuses and weapon enchantment so you can have a current THAC0 of well below -10.

No Jim, that is the displayed AC. Refer to my first post. The game caps the effective AC at -20. You may have -24 AC, but the game will still treat it as -20 AC. That was what I meant.

Oh, and it is good to know that I can have negative THACO. Whew!

Are you sure Dundee? I've just tested it briefly, using a blade with defensive spin, first at an AC of -20, and again with an AC of -24, using Keldorn to attack him, and the roll required to hit the AC of -20 was lower than that required to hit the AC of -24....? I'm confused. It sounds unusual for BG2 to display something that is not applicable. Anything else thats capped (like the XP for example) stops advancing at the maximum value. Also, the blade had an AC of -18. When he sings the improved bard song it should grant a further -10 to AC, i.e. an AC of -28, but it stops advancing at -24 which is what led me to belive that was the cap.

I am basing this on the comments of others, so the only way I can be certain is to look at the game code itself, but it is generally accepted that -20 AC is the limit. Perhaps somebody with knowledge of the game code will provide a better answer.
