hey, im an elvan archer and he is the coolest ever just because it is. but i have a question, in most almost all games and movies elves are archers, (not just lord of the ring) but in balders gate 2, elves have a penelty against constitution which is thing that rangers need best in. well i went ahead and made my person an elf, and right now he still has the most health in my party (98hp) but most people are just a point or two under.
Does anyone else think that this class thing is odd?

not really - you can still get 17 CON by luck or re-distributing which i guess would be the toughest elf there is
your main character gets 10 or so extra HP in BG2 anyway as a sort of bonus enjoy your archer - mine didn't last long but they're very cool |

Actually, don't care whether your elf is not like the other elfs... He is a child of Bhaal, and as such, has a high physical ability. So I do build elves with 16 con, though it is rare...
Also, strength higher than 15 would be rare for humans and elves.. It's normal for a godchild.

yes, i suppose, my elf has 19 strength though, that silly belt, i had to use it for the strong arm bow, but i could have taken it off once i put the bow on, but thats kinda cheap, but a good idea

Well, even though rangers' primary attribute is constitution, an archer's most important is really DX, followed by ST (for those big bows.) The reason: they wear light armour (even though nothing should get that close) and DX is added to ranged to hit and damage bonuses. So Archer elves aren't bad off.

The "connection" between Rangers and Constitution is nonexistent. Rangers have exactly the same reason for a high CON that all other Warriors do: To have more hitpoints, so you're less likely to get killed. BioWare only added that "This ability is important to the Ranger" line in the Character Creation screen just so each of the 6 attributes would be associated with a particular class.

Speaking of con my Fighter/Thief has constitution of 18 and has about 70 so hit points while the others such as minsc with lower con has about 100 is that a problem?

Single classes have much higher hit point totals than multiclasses. It's not a problem at all. Not only should Minsc be of higher level (ie his level is higher than either your fighter or thief levels), he is also a warrior. You are at a "disadvantage" hitpoint wise because some of your hitpoints are as a thief.

yeah, your all right, but still, rangers are the coolest class, because i do about as much,if not more, damage to enemys, but i usually never get touched. it rocks. plus i can cast a few low leval priest spells, just in case i need some cool small stuff.
