Night Stalker, I agree 100%. Getting money back means you gave a free loan. Just like getting anything better than a "C" on a pass/fail exam. It's a misallocation of my resources.

That said, most of us don't want to have to pay a whoping amount right after the holidays. The math is inexact, so like most of us, I usually hit just a bit above or below the target. But, last year that bit was like $1K, so that's better IMO that it being $-1K, right?

If I get anything over $300 or so back for running my little tax program for a day w/ my wife, I consider it worth it. Course, she considers it worth it if we get $1.

Tax's ++-- if you ask me, but then I get that wonder child tax
I still think it is bogus that we taxed on our frikin income, after we are the ones that earn it and work and slave for it day in and day out.

DOWN WITH IRS

Bye all.

I've gotta get some papers served today, and the drafting drafting drafting is coming to crunch time.

Oh, and on taxes - anyone need a good lawyer.

Just joking, if you want tax advice for NEXT year we'll talk. Lawyers come at the beginning for tax planning - this time of year it's all accountant's work, IMO.

But, if anyone cares to know, I use TaxCut and do my own. Course I'm still a renter and can file 1040, but it's starting to get decently complicated and I'm still able to do it in about a day. *Ponders one second* - Hey, I should be getting paid to advertise by those folks, shouldn't I? Well - have a good day all.

If doing taxes was easy, can you imagine the unemployment rate? What would we do with all unemployed accountants and lawyers, not to mention half of your IRS employees.
I don't know Willow. Ooooh! TL won´t like that comment. Besides I know very little about treating infections, not my area of expertise so to say. Studied some immunology when in Uni but I´m afraid most of that is forgotten. We could always come up with some treatments. Any suggestions?

Ooooohhh - no THAT was the comment I didn't like.

The tax code is complicated for a very simple reason: it's the most direct way the legislators have to influence your and my behavior. You can't mandate a 2-kid limit on families. However, if you set up the dependent deduction or the child care credit such that it drops off with greater than 2 kids then you do influence behavior - or so they assume.

So, go blame politicians. I only push the paper they make me push. The Paperwork Reduction Act takes up hundred of pages of statute and regulation, and requires a separate sheet of paper stating certain things be created. I promise you, a practicing lawyer would not have come up with that - well, not this practicing lawyer anyway.

TL

I don't think they make stupid irrational laws to try to influence behavior. They do it because they have to do something to justify the pay raises they vote themselves!!!

Paper Reduction Act?!? There is one seriously?!? LLAO!!! You should see the amount of Treeware I produce for the Army maintaining multiple copies of files that exist on a computer!!!
