I am new to the whole D&D rpg style game. I kind of understand the basics but I have a problem. Everytime I level up, my THACO and Save Vs Spells, Wands, Breath Etc, is all REDUCED. Is this good? Bad? My characters continue to improve gameplay wise, but I couldn't find an adequate answer to my question in the instruction books.

LOL, don't worry Rambler! They are supposed to go down!
I won't go into the long and arduous explanations, but just bear in mind that for THAC0 and saving throws, the lower the better. Well alright, a short elaboration then! THAC0 stands for 'to hit armor class 0' - it's the number you need to roll on a 20-sided die to be able to hit someone with AC 0. Obviously with a THAC0 of three (you only need to roll a 3 or higher) you will have a higher success rates, as only rolls of one or two will be misses. Similarly, with a stat of Save vs. Spells = 4, you will need to roll 4 or more to succeed your saving throw. I hope that was clear enough Welcome to the forums BTW, and feel free to post any other questions that you might have. Welcome to the ironworks forum Rambler! As for your question yes a low thac0 is good as is for example a low armour class. Thac0 stands for "to Hit armour class 0" so that's what you have to roll on a die to hit the oponent so the lower your thac0 is the lower number you have to roll on a die, makes sense?

Armor Class, as well, is counterintuitive. The lower your AC, the better. I had a friend who made this mistake in BG1--kept wondering why he kept getting his butt kicked in the Nashkel Mines using a party wearing Leather Armor.
