go get your hands on some aloe vera ointment, man...you should be able to find some at a pharmacy somewhere. if you use that daily on the burn, it will promote quicker regeneration of your skin cells, it will soothe any pain you might have, and may even lessen the severity of any scarring. make sure you find an ointment that's as pure aloe vera as possible (try to avoid any other additives...) the plant in itself (the gel within it, actually) is notoriously effective in treating skin burns.
sorry to hear about what happened. few things are more physically painful than a burn...

ABSOLUTELY!
I have had numerous burns on various body parts due to freak accidents and negligence on my part as well as others. Pure aloe works wonders toward healing the burn with no scars as does cooling the burned area off ASAP. The last time I got burned, I had third degree burns on the back of my hand through the negligence of a fellow employee. I went home, broke open an aloe plant and rubbed the gel on the burn and stuck my whole hand into a large bowl of ice until I couldn't feel anymore burning sensation whenever I let my hand begin to thaw.
I have slight discoloration on the back of my hand in one or two spots that are hardly noticable. Considering the flesh between my fingers and even my cuticles were blistered, I came out of that one pretty lucky!

I hope you feel better soon, and if you can't get any aloe or aloe products, at least cool it off using ice, ice packs, frozen vegees, whatever it takes to take the heat out!
*hugs*

Here's a little update

I managed to get over to the hospital about an hour and a half ago, and they referred me to this special department that deals with burns. The bandage came off and my hand looked very strange, it was red/white and swollen where the worst of the burn was (between my thumb and my forefinger). The doctor looked at it for about ten minutes then judged it to be a (translated) superficial second degree burn, which is better than I initially thought. If it had burned slightly deeper I probably would have needed a skin graft, so I was lucky in this respect. In the end he wrapped my hand up in this light bandage and gave me some cream which I'm only supposed to apply after the first week, provided the burn has healed to a certain degree. He says it should heal substantially in 14-18 days, so I hope he's right. I'm lucky it's my right hand and not my left, otherwise writing this would be even slower than it already is.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support and sympathy, god bless all of you. It's wonderful to have such good friends.

That is good news, Alex!!! *big hug*
I'm glad it isn't anything too serious, and it will probably heal quickly. Still, that must have been a real scare, and the pain must have been bad as well...
