You can learn traits whenever you are at the level in the guild to get them. Generally, you can't learn any traits at level 1, unless I just forget. As you ascend in level (all the way to 7), you'll get to learn more and more. You can only learn 1 trait per guild per character level.

WELL...
I'm against killing NPC's as a general rule, but if you must.... *sigh* Think about it. What type of element would a tree hate the most? Or, better yet, what almost killed Oakenmir the first time during Anephas' battle with Cet? I'll put it to you this way...it sure ain't water. -Sazerac |

There are a couple of reasons why Firestorm might not work as well as you would like.
1. Oakenmir is very powerful. He has a ton of hit points. He was considered powerful enough to guard the Mavin Sword until his "weakness" was shown. (Some "weakness"! I have seen fireproof armor take more fire damage that Oakenmir.) Even when you do a lot of damage to him, it will be a small percentage of his total points. Don't expect to kill him with 5 or 6 Firestorm spells. It will take a lot more than that to kill him. 2. You may not have your sorcery skill developed well. The higher your sorcery skill, the more damage your offensive spells do. As for killing Oakenmir, you might want to develop your character a bit more before trying him. Think about it. The harder someone or something is to kill, the more "reward" there is. If there is a big "reward" in either exp or gold, don't expect it to be easy. This is not something a 14th level character should try unless he is trying to commit suicide. Knarfling. |

It will take a LOT to take him down. Trust me on this one. Prepare to spend about 30-40 minutes of fighting and spellcasting.

I escaped with 3 dead guys and 3 barely alive (and ran like a coward from 2 groves of trees that he summoned with his final breath). The general advice seems to be that he can't do the summoning trick if you lure him down into the shallows of the sea (never tried it myself) - and yes, 20-30 minutes is about right.

Poor Oakenmir!!
If they do a sequel to this game they really, really MUST make it not rewarding to kill the good NPCs!! That it is rewarding in W&W and that there are no consequences even after having sworn an oath bothers me no end! Wyv |
