Isn't it cute! My friend Em and I were pulling into her road and this whippit was just standing there on the side...no collar. About two other people stopped and we all wondered who it belonged to...so, rather then let it get run over or eaten I took it home. We've called the papers and the 3 vets here to tell them we found it. Doesn't have a microchip either. If no one claims it in like a week (or the animal shelter suggested 4 days) I get to keep it

Look it over for tattoos!!! Some breeders use registered tattoos to identify there dogs, usually found on the underbelly were there is less hair. Nothing beats microchipping even though it is a little expensive than getting tattoos.
As for the claiming if someone does not come around to the animal shelter within 7 days I doubt they are looking very hard unless the dog originated from another town or city and traveled a fair distance, or was abducted. [ 09-20-2004, 06:02 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

Awwww, so cute Lady Blue! You did the right thing taking it home, so it is safe and not getting injured by wild animals or run over. Not much else you can do but advertise in the paper and talk to local veterinarians, except for putting up flyers, which is illegal in some places. Always a possibility too that it is not a lost dog, but somebody just dumped it on the side of the road (people always did that sort of thing where I lived while growing up, grrrr!).

Ya, I considered the possiblity that someone dumped her, but I doubt it. She's clean, well fed, house broken, and very sweet...anythings a possibility though. She does bark a lot, but I'm already teaching her not to and she catches on quick

That's a cute dog, what breed is it? btw, if you are planning to keep it. Take it to the vet and give it some medical checkup, they probably give it some injection ( heartworm , rabies etc etc )as well.
