I would think going around the town on a murderous rampage to everyone/thing that looked at you funny would be quite entertaining. I was wondering though would you suffer consequences in the game (town guards, people not giving you certain information because of your actions) things like that.

Yes your reputation would lower drastically. And if low enough there is a chance Amnish Soldiers and Cowled Enforcers will spawn. But it would be quite funny

Yep, Goulum's right, guards and wizards will come after you, in big numbers. And because of your lowering reputation, good- or neutral aligned NPCs might leave your party, and Paladins or Rangers that you might have with you will lose their special abilities.

In that respect, BG2 is quite realistic. If you appear in town as a raving, deadly sociopath, the local forces will try to put you down immediately. Kill a few, and you'll have a rock bottom rep--which means the news about your activities will in effect travel far and wide, causing merchants to shun you, and armed forces to seek you out. Look in the manual at what happens when your rep reaches zero. if you're into that stuff, then butcher away! XP flows freely when the law sets its sights on you!
